It’s also to blame for my most hated myth, that Meldrick Taylor was easily beating Chavez in their fight. It is utter balls that’s grown because of the HBO team’s (which included Leonard, funnily enough) utter bias in covering the fight.

Fair enough to say Taylor was ahead by a couple of points, but Chavez was hurting him with everything he landed. The ending was dramatic but no exactly a shock considering how Chavez fights.

I love watching Legendary Nights but several (most?) of them are presented with an agenda/ slant and shouldn't be taken as "the" source for information on the fights and fighters, just as a piece of entertainment.

The best thing about that legendary nights series was Lou Duva being exposed.

    Agreed.

It's probably a simple case of him being asked the question and not really thinking about how to answer it.

Many people these days like to paint Floyd as some sort of God, when in fact he's a very lucky boy that he wasn't knocking around in the 147lb division either in the 80's or at the turn of this century - because he'd either drain himself to 140 or just duck everybody.

Corrales is tall and has reasonably long arms.... like Hearns. It's the only reason I can think of for him to make such a claim.

It's along the lines of someone saying he could beat Duran because he dominated and stopped Hatton.... in that they are both short, with short reach and generally come forward at will.

I could listen to arguments for Mayweather to compete with both Leonard and Duran (not beat them) but anyone who seriously tried to tell me that they believed Floyd would do anything with Tommy would be greeted with a pretty loud laugh.... then probably the words ''**** off, you don't have a clue''

BB, was Corrales' arms really that long though? Yes he was tall but i don't think he was that rangy. Certainly not as rangy as Tommy Hearns.

Boxrec lists him at 70'', which is shorter than Floyd (72), DLH (73), Mosley (74) and finally Hearns.... 78''.

Quite a bit shorter than I thought.

It's an easy mistake to make, but people do it all the time. Being tall doesn't necessarily mean you're rangy. I've seen very tall fighters with reletively short arms or who give up their reach. Corrales was one of them. Flexen's Hearns/Corrales comparison looks even more silly now.

I don’t think Floyd could do anything with Duran or Leonard.

At 135, Duran is just too good, probably the best ever at the weight. And if Castillo could hold Floyd close in two fights, he’s not beating a monster like Duran at his best weight. The Panamanian wouldn’t struggle to close the gap, he’d work on the inside and any clinching from Floyd would end with a swift fist to the balls or a thumb in the eye.

Leonard at 147 is too big, too fast and too complete to let Floyd win. Floyd’s not got the size to outbox a prime Ray, and he’s not got the muscle to outfight him. He could do what his father did early on, but Ray is going to catch him eventually.

I suppose being predominantly a left hooker a lack of reach wouldn't really affect Corrales..... though the same may have dictated him to fight in such a way?

    Probably the latter.

Williams is the classic tall fighter with long arms that gives up his reach for me, his jab is awfully sloppy at times.

Yeah, I don't see even Mayweather having the legs to be able to hit Duran and stay out of harms way enough to win the fight.

I do think he'd make Duran look bad at times though.

As for Leonard, I guess it depends which Leonard we see - if he starts trying to plant his feet and slug Floyd may have some success in the early rounds..... but whereas Leonard made adjustments against the likes of Benitez and Hearns.... Mayweather only really has a fading Hatton, a mental midget in Zab and an old Shane to his ledger in that respect.

Leonard will probably want to draw Mayweather forward, which he isn't comfortable doing unless the opponent is either gassed or badly hurt....

Spot on, Gaz. Also, what many people don't know is that Leonard actually offered Pryor the chance to fight after the Duran rematch. Pryor prized himself out and rejected a career high payday, his excuse being he was being low-balled because Leonard was making substancially more. Well, if he was so desparate to fight Leonard and was getting a career high pay check and was a fighter who was unknown and had little market value, then why didn't he take the fight. This was after Pryor had only had one title defense and had never made the type of money he was being offered.

Ray Leonard didn't duck anyone, let alone Aaron Pryor.

Duran Vs Floyd would be an absolutely savage beating regardless of whether I cosideredn Floyd an amazingly proven fighter or not. Duran has too much in his arsenal, I can't really think of anywhere where Floyd is superior (and yes that includes defence)

Leonard Vs Floyd is essentially the same.

How does everyone see Floyd Vs the 17-year old Benitez @ 140? :think

Thats tricky one mate. Floyd is older and solid at 140 while Benitez is skilled but still green.

    Mayweather pts for me.
