I doubt many people even know of his record and care whether Floyd "surpassed it".

Marciano went 49-0 and retired as Champion. Some other World Champions have been undefeated with more wins at some point in their career... but every one of them except one eventually lost.

Wilde lost, Chavez lost, Calzaghe had 46 wins... Lopez had 51 wins... and a draw.

So... Lopez had 51 wins and no losses and he was a World Champ, but he did have that one draw.

Reaching 49-0 as a World Champ and never losing still means a lot. Technically it is still a record, but the record needs to read like this-

Most wins without a blemish (loss or draw) by a World Champ... Rocky Marciano (49-0).

Most wins without a loss by a World Champ... Ricardo Lopez (51-0-1)

Roger's isn't saying that Floyd would be the first to break Rocky's record. He's saying that there are those who don't want Floyd to do it too.

I see this post has been ignored by a few people. :nut Some of you owe Roger Mayweather an apology... just kidding, I wouldn't go that far.

I'm waiting for someone to bring up Jimmy Barry. Barry went 61-0-10 (40) 1NC in 72 pro fights... but I've seen some different stats, never a loss though. His last fight was in 1899... that alone should put things into perspective. Draws are blemishes.

"people don't want floyd to beat marcianos record" - Correct, otherwise they'd not push for a Pac fight but rather push for a fight with another random idiot who'd be willing to take a scorecard dive as soon as he sees the guaranteed zeros.

...and if Mayweather retires at 50-0? I'm no Mayweather fan, it looks good on paper but a lot goes into a record like that most of the time. Close wins, wins that aren't deserved, cherry picked opponents, being able to call the shots, and so on. Bottom line he is a damn good fighter though and I'd think the same even if he had a handful of losses.

The record seems important to him, but i thing most people dont give a **** and want to see fights. Boxing is and was corrupt, its unkind and ungratefull to its fans. But we love to see boxing match and enjoy those we get.

Result and records are for aftermath pointless bickering, fightnights are emotion packed
