Roger Mayweather teaching basics to MMA fighters

I always hear the same corner advice of Roger:
Jab, jab. Stay off the ropes, get to the centre of the ring.

Anyway, Floyd knows how to fight and what he can do in that ring, Roger does not need to say much. Much like James Toney with Freddy Roach.

 

His father. I mean, he was the guy who originally taught Floyd's the defensive skills. Roger just made sure that Floyd maintained his skills, so I think hos father deserves more credit.

 

james toney had one of his best runs with roach in his corner, the gameplans are not made up in the corner, they are planned during camp.

toney wouldn't have been with roach if he didn't think he helped, nor floyd with roger.

oh and there have been countless times where floyd was being troubled and roger argued to get his point across to get floyd to listen.

 

so you dont think floyd has improved over the years?

and you give the guy who trained manny pac originally more credit than you do roach?

 

Roach did some major improvements on Pacquaio (technique, body punching, head movements).

I don't know,it does not seem to me that Floyd has improved much over the last, say 8-10 years. He already was a terrific fighter back then.

 

all you have to do is watch floyds old fights and watch him now to see the improvements, to say he has made none is just idiotic.

 

Not sure about this, they sure draw up a game plan but it is not like other trainers could not do it.Floyd and Toney elected for them as trainers because they had respect for them.But, both foghters know already how to fight.

Credit should go to Mayweather SR and Bill Miller.

 

Floyd already made his opponents miss at will when Roger was not in his corner.

 

bill miller taught toney the foundations, just like floyd with floyd sr.

roger teaches more than one style, he is all around a better trainer than sr.

I disagree. James Toney did not need Roach, he would have probably had the same sucess with another trainer.Bill Miller certainly taught Toney more the nuances of the sweet science, old school triks and certainly not only the basics. Toney improved a little due to experience, Roach had very little to do with it. Roach himself would tell you the same thing.

Same applies moreor less for Floyd.

 

What happend to Tim Slyvia's plans to move into boxing after he got KO'd by a very old shot to pieces Ray Mercer in like 30 seconds??One of the biggest names of the heavyweight division in UFC...sparked with 1 shot in the opening minute. He tried to stand up with a boxer and look what happend - against an old shot fighter. At least Kimbo had the good sense to know he couldn't win standing up and striking with Mercer...he took it to the ground and choked Mercer out. Otherwise Kimbo to would have got owned.

Its been said before in a street fight the MMA guy should win, in a cage the MMA would win - he's in his own territory. In a boxing ring with boxing rules all MMA guys would be embarrased and against a puncher would be out of there pretty quick.

I can watch UFC, its ok sometimes - at least when you get two guys standing up striking...when you get 2 grapplers its untidy scrappy and IMO very ugly and boring to watch.

 

He has not improved much, that is all I am saying.
