Interesting from Roger Mayweather ( think i saw it on 24/7 or on a sky network channel):

"I 'll tell you how to beat floyd, To beat floyd - you need a stick- and I mean a fishing pole- because you can't beat him by yourself.."

I mean obviously Rogers gets on and on with this line and goes on to make out hatton need a weapon to beat floyd- but anyone that knows boxing- or who boxes- knows- a stick means a long jab.

I think there is some truth to this. Alot. As Dela hoya showed early. Floyd is able to engage and win in close quarters- because of his speed and skill. Everyone thinks the way is to smother him. But what if a tall rangy fighter had a long jab- could just keep his distance and pick jabs all night- and negat his speed. ala tarver with roy, ala Ali with everyone. A fast accurate- educated and LONG jab has always been the most effective tool against slilcksters.

    Long jab???

    the forgotten man Paul Williams.

Cotto has a punishing jab also. He is small, but his jab is frigg'n viscious!

I would agree , one of thing floyd like to do is counter over the jab , which one of the reason Oscar stopped Jabbing down the stretch .
Against some one with a reach, floyd would not be able to counter with out leaving himself open. but again we're getting ahead ourselves, let see what ricky bring to the table before we make any judgements.

true - i think ricky has a shot- i just think it was interesting that roger himself conceded the possible thing that could beat his nephew- and that it was jab.

Paul Williams would dominate Mayweather. No question about it in my eyes. If you actually could put together the perfect style to beat Mayeather, look no further than Williams'.

I really don't know why Oscar stopped throwing his jab but it couldn't have been because of Floyds counters. I have watched that fight several times and sure, Floyd did counter sometimes off the jab, but not nearly enough to justify Oscar stop using it.

It was defiantly enough to make Oscar think before throwing his jab , you could see once he got counter he would then faint a right and try to come over with the hook which floyd saw also..

This really has become a myth. Oscar was not being countered that often when he threw his jab. Period. Oscars best rounds were when he was using his jab. Those were the rounds he won. You don't win rounds using your jab alot if you are getting countered to death. After the 8th he put it in the holster and lost the fight because of it. Agree to disagree.
