This was Mayweather's first big test.

Here, at 13-0 and after only 1.5 yrs as a pro. he moves up in weight to challenge USBA Lightweight Champion Ruben Munoz.

Munoz was coming off kos of top 10 contender Curtis Harris and former WBA champ. Art

    Frias.

Mayweather dominates this fight, utilizing superior hand and foot speed to thoroughly

outbox Munoz. Mayweather comes of his toes to punish and knockdown Munoz in the

7th round. Munoz stuns Mayweather a round later but Mayweather recovers to re-

    establish his dominance.

Overall, this was a great performance by Mayweather and showed he would be a force

to reckon with in the future.

In fact, he won the WBA Junior LIghtweight Title a few months later over Sammy Serrano.

Munoz would lose to Robin Blake in a war in 1983 then fade quickly, losing via ko to

Charlie "Choo Choo" Brown and Kenny Baysmore.
