Scheduled for 15 rounds at 130 pounds, who wins? Could the Black Mamba use his advantages in boxing ability, height and reach to keep the tough mexican at bay and outpoint him? Or will Limon`s consistent body of work downstairs pay dividends towards the last third of the fight on a tiring Mayweather? In my opinion I think Roger will make a complete ****** out of Limon for the first half of the fight, until those debilitating hooks and uppercuts to the body start wearing him down and making him more stationary. Once that happens it will only be a matter of time until Bazooka finds that glass jaw of his and knocks him out sometime around the 11th I reckon. Over ten rounds I would favour Roger, maybe even over 12 but 15 rounds is a long time to keep someone like Limon at bay. He could ship enormous amounts of punishment and still keep coming, and unlike Roger he is a proven fifteen round performer having gone the distance on a few occasions. This would ave made for a good fight, one which would have had it`s fair share of bad blood between the two I`m sure.
Limon by mid-rounds KO. Roger would look good early like against Chavez, but then would be crushed by the constant pressure Limon brings to him.
When I first saw this, I thought Mayweather...Until I read fifteen rounds...and considering the weight at which this fight is being contested...Mayweather was a fast, sharp hitter who staggered Chavez in their first fight...But against Limon, durability or lack of it decides the outcome of this one...Mayweather did become a stronger performer 10lbs north of junior lightweight, later in his career. But I remember Limon going to war against Chacon, toe to toe against Arguello in the early rounds of their fight, before being stopped on cuts...and the body shot stoppage of Navarette...Limon was one tough customer... who wins by KO in 9. Good fight...:good
Mayweather was too slick for the slow handed Limon to catch up to. Limon would most likely start to wear Mayweather down but the rapier-like jab and solid right hand would cut Limon to ribbons! Mayweather by tenth round bloody stoppage.
I don`t know how you can say that Limon had slow hands, when he let his hands go they were pretty fast. If anything he was slow of foot, but his handspeed was good enough to catch Roger by surprise. To my knowledge Limon was only ever stopped on cuts by Alexis, and the Nicaraguan had to withstand some heavy artillery in that fight before stopping Rafael on that cut eye in the 11th. Roger wouldn`t have the durability to last in a dogfight with Limon, and even by boxing him all the energy he will expend by moving around the ring will slow him down late in the fight allowing Bazooka to catch up to him and take him out. Another good fantasy matchup would be Roger vs Chung Il Choi. The Korean was a decorated amateur & one of the supreme pure talents ever to come out of Asia. Unfortunately, he had an awful chin & that was his undoing, as he lost 2 thrilling fights to Navarette & Limon, two fantastic wars. In the five-way rivalry between Boza, Limon, Navarette and Chacon, Choi was probably the one with the most boxing skill. He was tall and lanky with a long reach and powerful right hand, and he definately had the faster hands between he and Roger. Had they met I would have favoured the Korean`s quicker hands to find the mark on Mayweather`s iffy chin.
Well not slow hands, but he did rear back & let his punches fly, easily telegraphing his blows. And against Mayweather he would be exchanging one for three easily. Mayweather did have a brief span, when he defeated a few Mexican fighters in the Los Angeles area. Who had simular styles to Limon. A much better matchup for Mayweather would have been against Cornelius Boza-Edwards, This would have been a very thrilling affair. Edwards would be able to get in and force Mayweather to fight.
I was just thinking of Limon a little while ago. I think his awkwardness could pose some problems for Mayweather, and he's tough enough to absorb those big right hands. Roger is just a better fighter though, and I'd say Limon gives him some surprisingly tough moments but drops a decision.
