Roger Mayweather vs Hatton 140 (prime 4 prime) I reckon this could potentially be a dangerous fight for Hatton. I think Roger had an excellent jab, and a booming right hand, he had a counter right hand, a counter uppercut, he could fight inside. Fair play Roger didn't have the greatest chin, or stamina imo, but look how hard Chavez had to fight to beat him in the rematch, that fight was relativity close till he started to tire toward the end, where by Chavez became too relentless for him, but Chavez had better defense than Hatton, was better at cutting the ring down, and had an iron chin. Thoughts?
I think Roger was probably primed at 140, skills and ability hitting their peak. I don't think Hatton as nearly as good as Chavez at the weight. Skills wise Roger tops Hatton, speed/range/power all in Rogers favour. Roger was chinny but Hatton didn't have KO power despite being a brutal bodypuncher. Hatton could be ko'd himself and never beat anyone as slick or fast as Roger. Hatton has the edge in chin/workrate, has less losses but was pretty much protected outside of his 3 biggest fights I'd go with Roger early, Hatton late or a decision either way, I think I lean towards Roger because the style really does not suit Hatton and it was the sort of style he'd only face for 20-30million paydays. Roger always fancied the Hatton fight for Floyd, so probably would have fancied it for himself
Agree specifically with the bolded, but generally your whole post to. The way Hatton fights with his hands on his chest, trying to walk into range? could see Roger stabilizing his head-movement with the jab, momentarily blinding him for the big right hand. Cant see Hatton constantly going after Roger once he felt the power, and there is only one winner from range.
Hattons style is to go after his man even if hes been hurt, hes not always. 1 thing to bare in mind is Hattons speed of closing the gap and inside wrestling, not textbook boxing but if hes aloud to get away with it, makes it hard for his opponent to get off, unless ofcourse he gets smashed on the way in. Thats something Mayweather Sr took away from Hatton. Were you in the Hatton or Witter camp Gooners? Given what Pacquaio did to Hatton, I feel justified in picking the inferior but tricky powerful Witter to beat him
Agree. Thats the thing with Hatton, he has a good/decent defense on the inside cause he smothers you, holds, or switches the angle when inside, but its getting from A to B where he has a poor defense. Hatton just seems really predictable in the way he closes distance. I always got the impression Witter would present major issues for him to be honest, I dont think Hatton could handle left handers, and a left hander like Witter, who could punch, work counters off your aggression, sounds like a stylistically hard fight for Hatton.
Roger was a very dangerous fighter at 140 ... to see him at his best watch him dominate a near prime Vinny Paz at 140 ... I se him taking out Hatton as Rocky's chin was vulnerable to his big right ...
