Anyone seen this one? How did the fight pan out? Roger was on a nice winning streak leading up to this one (as was JCC, obviously).

Do you mean the first or second bout? I've seen both. The first was a blowout for Chavez, as Mayweather probably drained himself too much to make 130, which is why he was the victim of several blowouts.

The second bout was a better affair. Mayweather did his best to cover up more and use a more defensive style similar to what Floyd Jr. would one day use, and it blunted the attack of Chavez somewhat. So Chavez had to settle for finding the occasional opening and slowly grinding away at Mayweather. Mayweather got a few good shots in, but didn't do enough on offense.

So Chavez slowly ground him down and Mayweather became less and less active, until the fight was stopped between rounds, after the 10th, I think.

First fight was similar to the second believe it or not, it was just extended to 10 rounds. Roger landing right hands and Julio dominating but taking big rights. The first fight Julio was hurt more but stopped it early in round 2. The second fight he was not wobbled as much but took some big punches.

A fight that was only going to ever end with a Chavez win.

Mayweather put up a gallant effort, but he was out of his league.

The first was better, for the dreaded Superman Punch.

I only saw the rematch which I think was around 1988 or 1989.. Around the 8th or the 9th round, the referee checked out Roger in his corner to see if he was okay, but decided that he was still doing too well to warrant a stoppage... Lou Duva was in Mayweather's corner in those days if I recall... A crowd pleasing fight and one of Julio's toughest opponents at prime..
