At LWW. Do you think this is too much for Roger ????? I love Matthysse but I´m very open to hear more about Roger !
I'd like to see the course of his career get a little deeper before these types of matches being posted up for Lucas, who has yet to really "make it". But, if LMM boxes cautiously and tries too hard to show that he's not just a puncher but a boxer-puncher, the way he did with a faded Judah, I could see Mayweather surviving to a win. Definitely. But, I feel like probably Matthysse has seen tactical error in what he did there (despite that many of us had him winning that match anyway) and matching him now with the 140 Roger, he would have more of a sense of urgency and earlier, and likely find the button on Roger before the distance. Mayweather could bang in his own right but we're at 140 now and I haven't seen any chin issues with Lucas with a few decent championship names. I'd favour him by stoppage, but hesitantly. If it goes the distance and becomes less of a physical match with LMM not getting to the body and having it take place on the outside for the most part, the way I'd see it getting to go the distance, I think it's either guy's to win.
Let's hope Lucas isn't cautious otherwise we might have another Roger Vs Pineda fight, which is probably the most tedious fight I've ever seen 'til someone decides to throw a punch and Roger gets sparked. Proper sparked, not over egging it and the tedium is not hyperbole either, nothing happens. It's a horrible bout but a stunning knockout. Lucas is a fair bit heavier than Rog' I'd imagine, anywhere near his 140 best anyway (and post-Pea to next Chavez fight was probably his best run, so even with Matthysse being fairly unproven, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he can survive Rog's patented right hand and chop him down at some point. A bit of Uncle Rog' at his 140lb best [yt]SG_cE23xOvU[/yt]
Not as quickly as Rocky Lockridge perhaps...(Perhaps..) but i think Lucas would find Rogers chin sometime in the first half, Lucus knows in a gunfight with Roger he is playing into his hands by giving him chances to reload...Roger is a good "Ön Top" fighter...but put him in a trench...with a durable heavy handed Hunter and i tend to think he runs out of Ammo .. the Ideas..then enthusiasm.
Roger is very much underrated imo, he'd be P4P top 5 today. With his Hearns like dimensions and power alongside his hand speed and skills rank highly although his durability and strength in his legs no so much. It's not like he didn't give Whitaker and Chavez good fights either, he won the early rounds in the Chavez rematch and that was a near peak Chavez. I was pretty impressed watching him beat Pazienza, that was a very good performance. Matthysse while similar in style to Chavez isn't close to being as relentless or accurate or nearly as good a puncher. I'd take the Mayweather who beat and lost in the Chavez rematch to beat the Matthysse who fought that close fight with the much inferior past prime Judah. And I rate Matthysse pretty highly, he'd certainly beat Garcia. Well Ray Leonard reckoned Hearns went up 3 weight classes for their fight, Roger looks huge at 140, another 12 hours of rehydrating would suit him just fine. The Pineda fight is past his best too
I wasn't saying it would go like the Pineda fight was I? That was referencing Boxed Ears post. Matthysse is bigger than Chavez by the way. As good? Clearly not, but he could well punch holes in Roger. What I will say in Rog's favour is that he did go the distance with Tszyu way past his best. A very good performane against Pazienza? Rog' barely even throwed. He was so controlled in the face of Pazienza's annoying behaviour that it took the knockdown in the last round to remind anyone he was still in there. Rog' was too placid most of the time. I'm a big fan of his, and I think if Floyd faced Roger's level of competition he wouldn't be anywhere near as highly regarded (but he'd do better; only thing Roger has over Floyd is single shot power) but fact is Roger did have 24 hour's to weigh in at 140. And I'm not sure he was a small middleweight, he always had skinny legs.
