Despite what people say, Roger IMO, was actually a pretty good fighter. Most of the time he had a height and reach advantage, as well as excellent power and good boxing skills. What failed him a lot was his chin, which cost him fights that he probably would have won. If Roger Mayweather had a granite chin, how would his career pan out?

Maybe not on here, but I have heard it before. Regardless, how would you think his career pans out? Mostly the same?

I am not sure I agree w/ your assessment of a weak chin either... I say his carear goes down like it did...Lockridge/JCC are not fluke KO guy's to be KO'd by them is not a discgrace...i wish I saw the pendleton fight 85-87 everything else happned later in his carear post 90...Very good boxer former champ..what's the problem???

Fair Assessment. It seems that judging by the comments here that Rogers career would turn out the same.

I think so...given an iron chin, I would probably still lean towards a Chavez victory, and slightly favor a Lockridge one as well..the Pendleton one might change as well as the guy (don't remember the name?) who took him out in 91...but largely I believe he would still be pretty much what he was...A good boxer, a champ and a guy who some unfairly dismiss for whatever reason? The KD by Whitaker (never saw it?) stands out as one that makes me wonder???

Mayweather was outboxing Chavez in there second encounter.Mayweather was an outstanding boxer who had HUGE power in his righthand. You should check out his bout with Munoz.
Mayweather also beat the hell out of Pazienza and then popped LOU DUVA in the face after the bout.
Mayweather was cose to being a great fighter. He just fell short.:deal

    yeah

that shot was hellish, right on the button against a pretty good set of whiskers.

roger had great range and a wicked jab. a very creepy right hand that seemed to just spring loaded. left hook was pretty decent as well.

his chin wasnt rock hard but he seemed to only get knokced out or hurt by the punches.

that lockridge ko was against rocky. and rocky was a great puncher and threw shots form very awkward angles....and to me personally when a guy throws or fights unorthodox it's far harder to hit him and far easier for him to hit you. which is what happend.

"Hez got bout 50 billion dollarz...so y'z he still make dem mutha****en computerz" Roger Mayweather is a classic.

Also the shot that knocked him out against Lockridge was a big punch, it really snapped his head sideways.

Mayweather's chin did not so much hold him back as his attitude. When he was on, he was brilliant, but sometimes he could not be bothered. I thought he hit his stride with his alphabet crap run as a 140lber, and I always liked the Brazier match, his finest IMO.

Mayweather with a chin would be an excellent fighter. But still not a great one.

Two other things would have held him back and they are interrelated: I talk of lack of stamina and his chicken legs.

Mayweather was just too top heavy and with his spindly legs he couldn't effectively move around the ring for long periods of time. His movement would alwways become sluggish late in fights and over 15 rounds he'd get sorted out by many excellent fighters from 130-140 who' close the gap on him.

The other issue is stamina. He didn't have great reserves, and that also contributed to him languishing in several fights towards the end of them. Whilst I had Chavez ahead in the second bout and heading towards a UD, I think Mayweather basically gave up the ghost because he expended himself. Heaven forbid it was a 15 rounder...
