Wow. Never knew that. Tragic. But all 3 of them were really simple necks. I think the middle ones world fell apart when he realised he wasnt going to make it as a Pro-Wrestler.

He made a comment about Wanderlei's conduct outside the ring.

You attempted to mock him by referencing only Wanderlei's conduct inside the ring.

That's not what he asked about. He didn't ask about Wanderlei's fighting style in his lesser-known professional contests. He asked for stories about how aggressively Wanderlei carried himself backstage, outside of the ring or cage. :good

    Great.

I've seen a video where Chael and Wandy share a van. Probably you've seen that one too. It's clear that there's no love for Chael in Wanderlei's heart, but guess what? No fight. Instead they have a civil, if somewhat strained conversation.

Considering that PRIDE Wandy, (according to scurla) would have attacked Rich Franklin merely for accidentally standing in front of the wrong elevator, it seems safe to say that PRIDE Wanderlei would not have shared a civil van ride with Chael Sonnen. Would you agree?

No I wouldnt, unless Rich had been talking **** like Rampage and Crazy Horse or had a beef with him like Team Hammerhouse. Neither would Don Frye agree either

Oh, so scurla is wrong? But scurla can't be wrong, ever. :conf

For the record I don't think that Wandy would ever have been THAT much of a dick to a nice guy like Rich. I think this is one of these times where scurla writes something and then either he means what he said or he doesn't, depending on his mood at the time.

And yeah, I've seen that video before. All Don Frye really says is "Yeah, so the first time I met Wanderlei, he didn't immediately want to fight me in the parking lot for no reason. Which was good, because the stories I'd heard about him led me to believe that he might."

But do you think that PRIDE-era Wanderlei would share a van with Chael Sonnen, compliment him on his performance vs Anderson, and then content himself with merely giving a polite lecture about how it's best to not disrespect Brazil? Because I don't. :smoke

    Ohhh for **** sake...

Scurla can be wrong, but he was spot on about this

Probably not, but you brought up Rich , Chael is a different kettle of fish. And Chael started talking **** AFTER the van incident about Wanderlei personally. When his suspension was lifted and he was looking for his 1st fight back from being a drugs cheat himself

They wouldnt share a van now it's personal

Wanderlei has always been aggressive and intimidating, but he was never Gilbert Yvel, Mike Kyle level with his craziness or anything. Rich has never said anything bad about Wanderlei, and at no point in his career would they have had a problem with each other outside of the ring.

Here, for example, he stops striking before the ref even dives in. That's a sign of a respectful, sportsmanlike guy.

I don't really know where I'm going with this. I'll stop.

Yeah, how could you want to fight Rich Franklin? He's one of the nicest guys around.

I don't know much at all about Wanderlei outside of the ring back in the day. I know that the Chute Boxe team travelled in a pack and were always considered the biggest group of meathead bully wankers within a hundred miles. But I don't know anything other than that general reputation. :conf

    :good

Haven't seen that fight before, and I'm quite impressed with Wanderlei there. Certainly he did stop punching immediately after the guy was knocked out. He also seemed a lot calmer than I've seen him in several fights, where he basically seemed to go into a frenzy. Certainly looks like he respected his opponent. His physique is definately completely different than UFC Wandy though. :yep

I seem to recall a good bit of Brazilian fighters being covered in bacne. Espically Azevedo back in the day. Atleast I think it was him.

That and the overly agressive **** the chutebox team would do was odd.

Hell, Shogun had a nice case bacne during the 1st Machida fight.

Meh...nothing much. Other than him getting KTFO by a LHW. Then retiring for a year, and coming back at 95 and dominating Sylvia and Gonzaga like they were average gatekeepers.

Crocop was actually a good bit smaller in Pride than he was in the UFC.

He put on weight for the UFC.

I can't call Cro Cop a drugs cheat. I mean, he's sure as hell under a lot of suspicion, as all the PRIDE guys are. That's what happens when your contract states that you're allowed a free hand to roid.

But Cro Cop, while still a tank in the UFC, to me he looked significantly softer. And his performances certainly suffered. Wins the open weight Grand Prix, beating Wandy and Barnett on the same night, and one year later he's been decisioned by Kongo and tooled by Gonzaga? Sure the cage instead of a ring doesn't help him, but this guy went from top of the heap to a journeyman (not even a contender) immediately. :-(

I mean, he was 31 years old and king of the world in PRIDE, and then he came under the umbrella of a real athletics commission and never managed a single significant victory for the rest of his career. He won the open weight GP and in 13 fights since then the best win he's come up with is against Pat Barry. :-(

It's the kind of thing you see better in video than in photos. His stance is the same, but he looks MUCH stronger and more solid in PRIDE. Even though he weighs the same, he looks far more musclebound. :conf

It doesn't automatically follow that this is because of steroids. Could just be he trained completely differently at the time. But it seems to be generally accepted that it's because he was roided off his tits. :good
