I will be honest that not enough footage of either exists for me to make a proper judgement, but, since there are no other takers... Seems to me that Bonevena did not do too well against scientific boxers, and in the first Frazier fight, he did well but benefited from Frazier's inexperience. He never did that well again, and his best wins seem to be earlier against guys who were near the end. So in terms of styles and levels, it seems to me that LaStarzza had an advantage. But I don't have a strong feeling and would be interested in other opinions.
Well Oscar as we dumped Frazier twice on the canvas ,and gave Ali on his comeback a tough night. He was also good enough to best Folley ,Lastarza as far as I'm aware had his biggest fight in that close loss to Rocky .He was a bit of a elegant type boxer .I reckon a close decision for Oscar myself but not a lot between them .
LaStarza could edge out a decision here but I wouldn't count on it. Oscar probably catches him and batters him, championship rounds.
How good was the version of Marciano, that LaStarza held to a close decision? Obviously further removed from his prime, than Ali and Frazier II, when Bonavena fought them. Having said that , Bonavena seems to lose every single time, that he comes up against a name fighter! If they were in the same era, you would match them to see which was the real deal!
