Lewis by KO in the first 6 rounds. He has some trouble at the start finding him, but eventually catches him with a bomb for the stoppage win.
That's not a good point .. Marovic was much larger than LaStarza and proved to have an exceptional chin, taking bombs that flattened most of the heavyweight division in the 1990's .. are you saying Roland takes the same shots ? No disrespect to Roland who was a decent fighter but he was a small cruiser who would get flattened by Lewis the moment he connected, likely in a round or two.
LaStarza was very durable - against the fighters he fought, anyway. I don't rate him as a particularly good contender historically though - although I may be under-informed. I think Bob Pastor was at least a bit better (to use a similar style/size fighter for comparison).
Mute point I know but that's the sort of thing most people would have probably thought when you think about, say, Billy Conn going up against Joe Louis at 168 when we know that he has blasted 250lb plus behemoths like Primo Carnera, Abe Simon, Buddy Baer etc to smithereens - differents fights different fighters - different size targets harder to reach targets cleverer targets faster at returning fire targets etc etc - fighting LaStarza would be ALL ROUND different to fighting a Mavoric - plus wasn't Mavoric only like 205 pounds for the Lewis bout? On the flipside I think a guy like the Ruddock Lewis would have to be able to lower the boom eventually on a slippery customer like LaStarza - Lewis was an all time great heavyweight champion end of - LaStarza while very respectable was a very good title contender not an all time great heavyweight champion - Lewis in 8 rounds:hi:
Not really the same because the statement implied Lewis could not blast out the Croatian when he teed off on him time and again and the man just was unbelievably tough ... LaStarza famously could not survive Marciano's power .. Rocky with his short reach managed to get to him so I doubt Lennox, so much bigger, stronger and actually faster would have a problem ... anyway, your broad based point does have merrit ... as always, it's styles and sometimes the timing ..
He survived 10 rounds of it, TWICE, before succumbing in the 11th of the rematch after shipping a large volume of punches. I think he's more famous for standing up to Rocky than for crumbling in front of him. You're right though - he was stopped.
I'm not going to dignify anything Hegrant writes, he is not a boxing fan. He's found a way to drag ****ing Marciano into this again, don't bother pepole. The rangy Bucceroni is far more relevant yet he goes on about "Rocky Marciano, Rocky Marciano, every white man bring up Rocky Marciano." All the right people understand the Mavoric analogy.
One other thing...Lastarza had quite a few problems, admittingly embarrasing in the peak of his career, with Rocky Jones a mob controlled club fighter. Went 1-1, and some reports even indicate after Jones dropped lastarza in the rematch he was put on the cuffs and told to take it easy the rest of the fight.
From what I read LaStarza could lack passion. He often struggled to get up for less important fights and DeAngelo said he had no killer instinct. Hence the constrasting outcomes of the Buccernoi fights. LaStarza lost when Bucceroni was still on the fringe, but dominated Bucceroni to take his top spot and work towards a Marciano Title fight in the rematch. I think he would be up for Lewis and give it his best. Rocky Jones was a top 10 LHW I believe, he did beat Tommy Harrison.
Mavoric also weighed more than 180 pounds. I dont give a damn who you believed had more skills Mavoric was a heavyweight and Roland LaStaza was a small cruiserweight. There are weight divisions for a reason and I dont see why you people keep trying to compare some 180 pound boxer to a true heavyweight. Lennox Lewis would smash
:blabla Grow up you in bread turd. The thread is debating LaStarza against Lewis moron. Of course gaging his performance v.s. Marciano is part of it ... Your post, as usual, was faulty and crap. I actually went easy on it so you could understand. So funny how I own you without ever remembering you exist.
I believe he is most famous for being perceived as suffering broken blood vessels in his arms (true or not I do not know) in a title fight loss by KO to Rocky. When people mention LaStarza it is a reference to Rocky's power.
