Lastarza gave Marciano some trouble. So, could he do the same against or perhaps beat Roy Jones? Why or why not?

LaStarza before the second Marciano fight schools Jones. However, LaStarza after he got ruined by Marciano might get outpointed by the Roy Jones that beat Ruiz.

Jones wins this, Lastarza had poor power and cannot compete with Jones for either speed or skills. Lastarza was a very carefully managed fighter.

Even in a poor era Lastarza was a moderate challenger .

Hard to picture RJJ being schooled....schooling seems to happen more to the plodding types

Someone really needs to tell me what LaStarza ever accomplished besides getting associated with Marciano. Would we even know his name today without this relationship?

LaStarza fought top heavyweights that could punch while Roy above 168 lbs was a very light puncher and cherry picked a lot of his opponents at 175 and especially when he had his fight at heavyweight.

Based on what? LaStarza fought better competition. Roy did beat Hopkins at middleweight and Toney at Super middleweight, which were excellent wins, but most of Roy's competition was very mediocre at both Light heavyweight and heavyweight. When Roy started fighting better competition at 175 he started taking losses. Tarver as talented as he was would get outboxed by Don Cockell and knocked out by Rex Layne.

Lastarza fought a seriously diminished Layne and won a split dec Marciano had ruined Rex , second stringer Cesar Brion , cruiser in and outer Dan Bucceroni who beat him in their first fight and Gino Bounvino who couldn't break an egg.He was knocked down and beaten by journeyman lhvy Rocky Jones just prior to his return with Marciano and there is some speculation Jones was wearing the cuffs in the rematch.
