To be absolutely charitable to Weeks, he did catch some flack for allowing the Morrell-Yerbossynuly fight to continue too long, so maybe that made him prone to stopping subsequent fights quicker....

...But, even if that was the case, he should take some time away from officiating and regroup rather than risk pulling a stunt like this.

...remember when Weeks was one of the few world championship level boxing officials with a spotless reffing record?

That’s why I hate boxing sometimes, awful. Literally screwed a 40 year old who was winning on all the scorecards. He didn’t deserve this , awful

That was so blatantly fixed , I can’t believe that. That was the most corrupt **** I’ve seen in years

The same Weeks who refed Corrales Castillo perfectly did this? Yeah right

Bro Corrales was like half dead with two swelling eyes and Weeks didn’t stop it but he stopped this when Romero didn’t even land LMFAO what a joke of a sport this is turning out to be

The longer, the better. Don't need to see him officiating a boxing match after that.

Oh that's right, I forgot among Floyd haters it has long been fashionable to vilify Weeks because of being his "personal referee" or whatever, along with Kenny Bayless. Ridiculous because Weeks officiated less than half as many of Mayweather's bout as Bayless (in fact, only three in his entire career, spread over a five year span, always buffered with a couple of fights in between) and in all three assignments he called it down the middle and if anything the complaints in Maidana I the night of and in the immediate aftermath revolved mostly around him not warning Mayweather's opponent enough for rabbit punches.

I guess the unspoken logic was that Bayless and Weeks are bad refs and in Floyd's pocket simply because of their complexion?

Anyway, while I've not been watching as much lately and could have missed a shoddy performance or two in the last few years, for a very long time Weeks had as near a sterling reputation as you can ask for in a high profile championship boxing referee. Consistency and calling things both ways being the name of the game. Did he occasionally have a relatively poorer night at the office? Sure. No ref doesn't. But he was mostly very steady & even-handed match to match, never enforced rules in a way that was lopsided, didn't have too many meme-material "wtf is he thinking" moments (ie quick stoppages). He was several tiers above clowns like Joe Cortez or Artur Mercante Jr., never as widely beloved a figure as someone like Smoger or Bayless to a lesser extent - but solid.

This was a terrible stoppage, but to act like it was in character for him - at least for the bulk of his career reffing big events - is revisionist.

Weeks was also the referee who let Badou Jack go on, despite sporting a gash that was nearly bone deep.

That is usually the ringside physician's call, not the ref's.

I am very close to giving up on this sport - boxing politics is blatantly corrupt.
