He also fought fighters such as Alexis Arguello, Bazooka Limon, Mario Martinez, Frankie Duarte. He's been in some underrated classics and rarely in a boring fight. Perhaps his big issue was his durability but still fought as hard as he could. Never in a bad fight. I forgot that he fought Martinez and I have never seen that fight, so I will be watching it later. I remember the days when he and Limon, Chacon and Boza-Edwards were Wide World Of Sports staples with the wars they waged amongst themselves.
It's a shame that we never got to see Navarrete against Bobby Chacon. That would have been absolute bloody affair even though I think Chacon might have won it.
I wonder how that fight never happened? They were all in the mix at the same time and it wasn't like either of them would have balked at fighting the other if the fight could have been made.
Yeah I’m not sure why it never came to be. Perhaps Chacón’s wife’s suicide played a part and decided to take some time after the last Limon fight to recover from that. Chacon also refused to fight Hector Camacho as well and instead decided to move up to face Ray Mancini. Definitely missed some good match ups around that time.

Well remember a documentary on Chacon when he was just starting to gain a reputation, think he was in a gym, sitting on a stool, he looked fit and handsome, very articulate, and amongst other topics, how happily married he was, and declaring his intention to be world champ in the not too distant future, at the end of the piece, the reporter asked him what were his plans should he win the coveted title, came the reply from the fresh faced fighter " oh I won't stay around too long like all those ex champs getting all beat up, I aim to buy a ranch and some property, then take it easy " or words to that effect, we all know that was not to be, so sad..... stay safe guys. Rocky Graziano (in reality) and Rocky Balboa (in the original film) both said it: Boxing is a racket where you’re practically guaranteed to end up a bum. It’s a hard sport in a harder world. Guys like Bobby Chacon literally gave their all to boxing. It takes more than it gives back. Sad for sure, but what a warrior our Schoolboy was. Inspirational. To keep coming hard when you’re catching misery and overcome it … a life lesson. An ex-fighter of mine has gone through some hard times, and really been tested these last couple of years. But she puts one foot in front of the other and perseveres. I tell her how proud I am of her because most people would have given up, but she’s always been a fighter (in and out of the ring). I wish Bobby had fought Rolo — a Fabulous Foursome of Chacon, Boza, Bazooka and Rolo Navarette … throw their names in a hat and pick out any two and you’re getting an absolute war. Bless ‘em all.
