Let's suppose there never was a dominant middleweight such as Hagler with multiple titles up for grab. I believe the best matchup remaining was 1984 Roldan vs. same year John Mugabi Although John was a lethal hitter in his own right, Roldan, as seen in his fight with Hagler, had the defensive moves of a Wilfred Benitez combined with the power of a God If James Green came close to taking out John, I see Roldan finishing the job. Roldan before ten
Roldan by Ko around 10. But he finds himself rocked a few times and his face is banged up at the end.
Mugabi by 5th round knock out. Hearns rocked Roldan often before stopping him and Mugabi hits every bit as hard as Tommy at middleweight plus the Beast had a better chin than Roldan. Albeit not after the Hagler fight.
Tbh, Mugabi. Roldan was knocked out by Nunn who was never known to be a big puncher. I feel like the fight would be competitive till Mugabi actually caught him flush and than knocks him out.
Mugabi by TKO in 5. Roldan was extremely difficult to deal with stylistically and packed a wallop, but one thing he lacked was heart. When faced with real adversity, he tended to wilt. Mugabi showed more grit against Hagler than I've seen from Roldan in any fight. I think he hangs in a fire fight better than vice versa, even if Roldan was the more proven Middle.
