El Gemelo's track record above 130lbs isn't great...losing to Gamboa, Zepeda, Urvanov, Misanov, and Geo López balanced against just a couple of victories north of super feather...but a) he is coming off a confidence-building rout of unbeaten prospect Victor Morales at 130 and b) Márquez at 12-4-2 shouldn't pose too much of a threat, although eight of those victories did come by KO. Márquez is returning from super lightweight after twice unsuccessfully challenging José Ángel "Sansón " Gabriel Rosa of Argentina for the WBC Latino 140lb title.

Alvarado following the 1-2 up top with heavy pendulum body shots. Márquez whipping in pairs of his own body punches and tying up after sticking with the jab and moving laterally for long stretches.

Ref quickly getting fed up with Márquez...not just that he's clinching, but he's practically butting Alvarado in the crotch when he does so, and reaching up and pulling down on the nape of Alvarado's neck from behind with both gloves.

 

Honestly not the best Alvarado performance I've seen...never the most economical, tonight he's throwing away lots of sloppy and wasteful shots, missing a high percentage - but he's still easily outscoring Márquez who is fighting scared, running away behind defensive flurries and jumping in to clinch.

 

5th round starting now...the onscreen graphic throughout round 4 erroneously said "Round 3". Not the first time VN13 has experienced graphics problems tonight.

 

This is becoming a wild brawl (when not stalled by the clinches)...Alvarado diving in with long straight rights on the body, then standing up tall and hooking at the head. Márquez tossing flurries into the face of Alvarado, then either clinching or taking long diagonal steps outside to flee or set up a pivoting hook.

Alvarado coming on in the final twenty seconds, overpowering Márquez with sheer will, breaking free of clinch attempts with forearms to Márquez's throat.

Wait, why is Márquez celebrating? That means a TD, as the cut was clearly from a foul. Does he think he's up on the scorecards?
