    Round 1

González is walking through Leon's predictable, redundant combos - always starting with a wide overhand right and then a left hook coming in telegraphed from the far side after twisting into the former punch, leaving himself wide open down the middle. González is cautiously feeling him out rather than making him pay with too many counters, just catching shots on his arms, bundling them up tightly around himself as he cuts in and works some short stiff shots on the body. Nice lead left uppercuts by González. Leon just keeps flailing down on him, hitting gloves.

    10-9 González

    Round 2

González is starting to lose his patience with letting León lead, and is doubling up the left uppercut, peeling León's lazy loose guard away from his face, allowing entry to the stinging short straight right. González is throwing three to four punch combos, staying in León's chest, swatting aside all attempts to generate counter firepower with his lower arms flicking out in reverse to either side like pinball machine paddles. León is consistently hurt and forced to back up bell to bell.

10-9 González, borderline 10-8 - EDIT, never mind, González drops him AT THE BELL with a quick hook, and it actually is a 10-8

    20-18 González - EDIT, nope, 20-17 González

    Round 3

González is jabbing and hooking off the jab into Leon's face, making him wince and retreat. González works the body with downward right handed pitchforks and uppercuts in between straight combos and hooks up top. Leon is overwhelmed. González lands a borderline low blow. Leon sells it, and takes half a minute to recover. Time in. González calmly walks up and peppers Leon with head and body shots with both hands, placement expert, aim deadly, hitting only pressure-points, vital organs, the bottom of the chin, etc. Leon down from accumulation by the ropes, taking his time on his knees, riding the count. Up. More jabs, crosses, hooks, uppercuts, body shots by González. The kitchen sink being thrown at Leon. It crushes him. Another knockdown. Leon up again. González put his boot on Leon's throat, intent on finishing this round. Another knockdown, and he does.

    TKO3!

I guess he did what he needed to do here. :conf

The fact that he didn't get rid of Leon faster is kind of disappointing (Leon has been stopped a whopping sixteen times, and 4 times already within three - putting González in a three way tie for second place as fastest to stop him, both Giovani Segura and Victoa Proa also scoring KO3s, while Oscar Blanquet and Omar Soto one-upped them all with KO2s) but he did look damn good in the process, as usual - and he never honestly left first gear in the first several minutes of the 'fight'. Once he started actually trying and not holding anything back - circa end of the 2nd - he destroyed Leon with ease.

    Shouldn't have been sanctioned, agreed.

González staying active is good, though. I hope this is his only 'tuneup' of the year, though (he fought two last year, before going on to pick up a pair of very good wins to balance it out)

Oh that's weird. León actually upset Jose Alfredo "Torito" Rodriguez last year.

That's a really nifty scalp for someone with a record as lousy as León's. I guess that's how Chocolatito's people were able to stomach going through with this - justifying it with the fact that León had recently defeated a world class fighter.

Really though I haven't seen it but suspect that just means Rodriguez is just no longer world class or close to it and was ruined by Ioka.

    Watch that space. ^

The channel should put up a recording of the fight soon, as they do with all their content.

Well yeah, that's what Juan Kantun and Juan Purisma were last year. This is pushing it to an extreme, though.

I'd rather he take on the likes of them back to back than someone like a Valentín León. They are both vastly superior, even as far away from world class as they both are.

You can't put a vicious punching top 5 p4p guy in with someone that has 16 knockout losses. That's just sadistic. We are civilized people, not like we're in the habit of watching hopeless unarmed gladiators fed to starving lions. :yep

I actually wish more fighters would do this, instead of long layoffs between fights and lengthy training camps. Why pay partners to spar when you could do it on tv and make cash? That way you get in front of your public and fans four or five times a year. As long as half the fights are legit contenders and other champions, I see no reason to complain. Put the easy fights on regular tv and the hard ones on subscription channels or pay per view.

I was trying to find the biggest purses in the history of each weight class recently, and I was shocked at the figures I was seeing for Ricardo Lopez and Mark Johnson. It looked like they topped out with career highs of about 750k, but usually it was a lot less. These guys were on the top ten p4p list in the 90s! I couldn't believe how small the purse sizes got once you dropped below welterweight.
