stupid me.. i see the RBR go up i take 15 mins to do stuff around the house and the fights allready over.. should expect as much from chocalito..

If Gonzalez were a champion at a higher weight and had bigger attention on him, attention that would match his accomplishments and ability, or attention that would get him paydays that were equal to what an Andre Berto has received for doing quite a bit less, then this fight never would've happened in the first place. This is just playing the hand you are dealt when you ply your trade at this weight class if you're not from, say, California, for instance.

I actually wish more fighters would do this, instead of long layoffs between fights and lengthy training camps. Why pay partners to spar when you could do it on tv and make cash? That way you get in front of your public and fans four or five times a year. As long as half the fights are legit contenders and other champions, I see no reason to complain. Put the easy fights on regular tv and the hard ones on subscription channels or pay per view.

I guess, yeah. Fine line. You can't get away in the West with what Wonjongkam for instance used to do. (beating up debutant Muay Thai crossovers in between world title bouts)

It just looks so weird on a record to vacillate between the elites in your weight range and total bottom-of-the-barrel scrubs.

Yeah, it's a shame, considering the quality of a lot of these fighters and of the action in a lot of their fights. I might be mistaken but I think Donaire didn't even hit a particularly big payday for the weight until Arce, which capped off eleven or twelve years of an undefeated streak and was not at all in the mix of his most significant matches or his most difficult on paper.

I know it's a business and not a meritocracy, but for the life of me I don't see why you can get a big broadcast for a Miguel Vazquez and not a Roman Gonzalez in the states. How is there no money in a top shelf fighter with a friendly personality who knocks people out, pressures them out of the fight, and carries the golden marketing standard of an 0? Beyond me. Good thing I'm not an investor, apparently.

I have a hard time dredging up as much sympathy for a Donaire as for Chocolatito.

Donaire was pretty much regularly headlining or co-headlining on major American TV networks from Darchinyan I on - less than halfway into his career, just six years after debuting. González has been in the game for a decade and done more than Donaire and just like Donaire a decade in a three weight division champion already - yet not one lucrative American TV appearance. :verysad It makes all the difference.

It sucks there isn't really a Darchinyan floating around currently - a colorful flyweight that US audiences know intimately and would be super impressed to see González waltz in & destroy.

Well yeah, that's what Juan Kantun and Juan Purisma were last year. This is pushing it to an extreme, though.

I'd rather he take on the likes of them back to back than someone like a Valentín León. They are both vastly superior, even as far away from world class as they both are.

You can't put a vicious punching top 5 p4p guy in with someone that has 16 knockout losses. That's just sadistic. We are civilized people, not like we're in the habit of watching hopeless unarmed gladiators fed to starving lions. :yep

What? That makes no sense.

Chudinov was blocking a lot of Eubank's punches (though yes, getting hit with a bunch) and never looked hurt and was firing back and completely lucid.

You're really comparing the González-León stoppage with the Eubank-Chudinov stoppage? You're not very sane; I'll give you that much.
