Thanks man, appreciated. Good to see others who are into the lower weight divisions.

at this stage I think Calderon outboxes Gonzalez, but with a few more big fights (I think people underestimate just how much an achievement it was for Roman to go to Niida's hometown and stop him) I think he will have a better chance of prospering. No doubt his power will carry up 3 lbs!

Gonzalez returns to the ring this Saturday, vs. Mexican Francisco Rosas, in his opponents backyard in Oaxaca. Hopefully this title defense will set up a unification fight vs. Raul Garcia.

calderon should go back down to 105. or roman should fight archi solis. that would be a dandy

I think Roman will move up to Light-Fly with ease. Unification at Straw would make a fight with Calderon that much more sellable, and, although I predicted a one-sided UD for Calderon, I actually think Gonzalez has the right blend of speed, power and ability (he fights for the full round rather than Cazares, who fights in spurts) to beat Calderon.

Will he or won't he be able to get to Calderon though? That's what makes that fight so mouth-watering!

Which is why he's fighting Canchila next? :think Canchila sucks. I'll tell ya right now, Calderon wants nothing to do with Roman.

He could be the best SW since Lopez.

You seen anything of Sithsamerchai, Pea?

Im yet to see him but I have seen a bit of Den Junlaphan(Kyowa) and Soto and I have seen Kratingdaenggym once.

They were all pretty good fighters (Kyowa-Mayol was one of my favourite fights of that year), so I reckon it would take a pretty decent fighter to beat them.

True. Unlike Lopez, there are some good competitors/'Champions' for Gonzalez to compete against, and if he moves up within the next year or so he can make his mark on boxing in general, not just a brilliant 'little man'.

Anyone here think he has a chance against Calderon?

And to the guy that says Cesar Canchilla is ****, he isn't, he's actually a very good little boxer, and will pose a threat to Calderon. A good tune-up after so long out, Calderon will surely fight Solis after though!

According to boxrec, WBO SW champ Donnie Nietes fights on the Oaxaca card as well, so it might set up a Gonzalez-Nietes fight instead of a Gonzalez-Garcia. IF it sets up a unification at all. Hopefull it is.

No and no. Calderon needs to step up the competition.

    Good news!

If Gonzalez can unify the SW titles he can be a REAL threat to Calderon. He's so crowd friendly he might be the first tiny guy to do PPV, Calderon vs. Cazares was PPV wasn't it? No reason why Gonzalez vs. Calderon couldn't be.
