So after a few years fighting off-radar, Donaire was finally (re)introduced to the mainstream public, and with a bang that put his previous big win to shame. Expect Nonito to get fulltime support from HBO and do big things while other talented small men look to break through themselves, hoping the Filipino Flash's impact will give these weight divisions some deserved air time. Two fighters I'd like to name from the lowest classes with P4P and marketing potential, something major TVs won't be able to pass on if they continue to bring the chills. Roman "El Chocolatito" Gonzalez (27-0, 23KOs), the best minimumweight now fighting at light flyweight is a highly skilled, hard hitting, fluid combination puncher from Nicarague who at 23 is already a 2-division champion, has an excellent work ethic, is charismatic and fights with bad intenstions, and given a major opportunity, he's ready to shine. That would be the all-LFW showdown between him and rising Mexican star Giovanni Segura in an expected all out slugfest with heavy hands - hopefully we'll see that later this year. Gonzalez is simply too good to fight off-radar for too long, he has the youth, the looks and the style to become a lower division star with higher P4P rankings. He recently pulled a Donaire on solid contender Franciso Rosas. When in beast mode, you go down it's as simple as that. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X34VpYBLFaQ[/ame] Luis "El Nica" Concepcion (22-1, 17KOs) is a stylish, cocky, athletically very gifted Panamanian slickster who recently demolished solid ex-champ Denkaosan in half a round and ran Daiki Kameda out of the division to make his interim flyweight belt a full title. He already won his countrymen's heart, but his style of fighting is there for the international public to fall in love with. His big defining fight would be a showdown vs. fading lineal champ Pongsaklek which is not out of question, but finding a big, well known name to get major TV exposure could be difficult, unless Segura moves up. In the meantime expect impressive performances from the 25yo. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtANGkZ1uTw[/ame]
I've been saying for quite a while how good Gonzalez is, but it's fallen on deaf ears. I prefer the lower weights if I'm honest, most people dont care about them. Which is a shame, they'll missing out on Roman, I cant think of too many others in the sport who put shots together better than him.
Concepcion fights Hernan Marquez who went 8 rounds with Donaire, so it will be a nice opportunity to see how Luis handles the Mexican who's super flyweight challenge was one fight only, his natural weight is flyweight where this takes place on April 2. More activity would help both Chocolatito and Nica.
