Hooks and jabs to the face by Gonzalez, but Rodriguez is game and up for it. Body shots by Rodriguez, standing up to Gonzalez's power. Very competitive.

Gonzalez is staying low and whipping in left and right hooks. Rodriguez waits for him and drops powerful counters, anchored in place. A bit of grabbing and shoving off between combos.

Round 3

Gonzalez is pushing Rodriguez to the ropes, but Rodriguez is answering back punch for punch with gusto every time Gonzalez attacks. Rodriguez is comfortable throwing with his back on the ropes, letting Gonzalez comes to him.

Round 4

Gonzalez is hooking the body and backing Rodriguez up into the corner. Gonzalez buries his chin to his chest and slashes inward at Rodriguez's stomach. Uppercuts by Rodriguez, hitting the forearm pillars of Gonzalez as he beelines for Rodriguez and presses him into the ropes. Rodriguez is gaining some confidence here.

Round 5

Gonzalez is pushing in with both arm locked together and raised out like ram's horns. Overhand rights by Rodriguez, standing his ground and catching Gonzalez behind the ear but not keeping him outside. Gonzalez stubbornly burrows his way in close and hits the body. Big left hook by Gonzalez standing upright and ceasing to move his feet; evaded as Rodriguez leaves him in his dust. Body shots by Rodriguez, curled into Gonzalez's ribs just above his waistband. Every step Gonzalez takes earns him a bladder-whacker, yet he trudges on applying pressure despite the collateral damage.

Round 6

Gonzalez is hitting Rodriguez with his best shots but can't phase him. Rodriguez is standing right in with him and giving as well as he takes. Rodriguez has a point taken, presumably for a low blow. Gonzalez keeps digging while Rodriguez puts a strong jab on him, not going anywhere.

10-8 Gonzalez, but close enough you could instead give it 9-9 (yes, it's a ten point must system but if Rodriguez wins the round - and you can make a case that he did - and has a point deducted, it goes from 10-9 to 9-9. That is how it works :good It's ten point must prior to deductions, which come off the net and not the gross points)

Round 7

Gonzalez is running into Rodriguez with hard overhands, uppercuts and hooks, and drops him. Rodriguez gets up and toes the line to slug with Gonzalez until the bitter end. Gonzalez's edge in power finally begins to show, as he is trouncing Rodriguez about but still unable to put him away. The referee takes matters into his own hands.

TKO7!!

 

"Chihuas" Rodriguez, who just celebrated his twentieth birthday ten weeks ago, walks around the ring saluting the fans. The Nicaraguans graciously applaud his effort, as does Chocolatito himself.
