I tried to start a thread earlier, but it got bumped for mentioning Floyd and Pacquaio. Regardless, instead of *****ing about Floyd being boring, and Pacquaio not forcing the action enough (Two things that are unlikely to ever change at this point), why can't people on this forum focus on great young talent like Roman Gonzalez? (He is fighting on HBO this weekend) Gonzalez is an extremely skilled, aggressive, hard-punching fighter. Not a one punch head-hunting slugger, but rather, a skilled technician with dynamite in both hands. His uppercut is masterful and deadly. The more fights I watch of his, the more impressed I have become. And, unlike the over-hyped megafight snoozefest from May 2nd, Gonzalez comes to FIGHT. He is not afraid to exchange punches in the middle of the ring. He is already 42-0 with 36 knockouts, and has numerous title defenses over 3 divisions. He is turning out to be a worthy successor to Finito Lopez at these lower weights.
I've only seen like three of his fights, I'll have to watch his career, from what I've seen this guy is CRAZY skilled. His combination punching and footwork are magnificent, and it's awesome he's fighting on HBO, is that his first fight on American TV?
The problem's being if one if he was anything from 126lb up people would be all over him exposure wise worldwide, marketability and the fights out there. Even failing that if we had a UK based fighter like him with that record,he would be at least be able to make some decent money TV would get behind him here. USA,Mexican at a slightly higher weight the way he breaks an opponent down, more so bingo $ wise.
he is my p4p no. 1 a year ago until now.....footwork and timing is masterclass... he is above pbf in terms of skills and timing.....
I think he ranks higher than Rigondeaux P4P, simply because his resume has more depth. Rigondeaux's only real notable win is Donaire. Gonzalez has Yaegashi, Estrada, Niida, Rodriguez, and Hirales.
Check out his fight against Estrada in 2012 on Wealth TV. It was in English from Texas and Larry Holmes called the fight. It also happens to be excellent stuff, like Marquez vs Pacquiao level action and skill.
