What does everyone think of this kid. Perfect record (21-0(19)) he recently won the WBA SW belt. Looks big for the weight, does anyone give him a chance against Calderon at JFW? I think Calderon would box his head off at this stage, but he looks very impressive.
I haven't seen him. Does he power stack up to what his record suggests? And does he have much else in terms of boxing ability?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJpBUlnZPtE Throws good with the left. Niida isn't fantastic but wasn't bad, I believe he hadn't been stopped before this. I think bigger challenged await at Junior-Fly and FW, he looks to have th frame for it. Maybe vs. Cazares? Two big punchers, could be the most exciting fight at the bottom end of the lower divisions.
He looks lively, very active and physically strong at the weight, which are probably the reasons why he has so many knockouts. He doesn't look to have very good handspeed, nor one-punch KO power so most of his stoppages have probably come through an accumilation of punishment. Looks like he likes to use the left alot, and his straight right looks decent, chin seems to be okay but a little open when throwing shots although he covers up pretty well when he's on the defensive, but doesn't look very slippery in terms of manuvering around shots. I think something like Calderon would box rings around him.
I actually had Gonzalez to beat Niida, he applies constant pressure and does have one punch KO power depending on his opponents chin, decent defence, he punches with authority to the body and the head and would wear down or KO most fighters at this weight. I want to see him unify with Raul Garcia the IBF champ also unbeaten with reasonable power, and good boxing ability.
The kid is good. I read that he might have three more fights at that weight and then go to the next division. His promoter and trainer want him to think about it but at the end he will have to decide. His next fight is going to be in Japan as well, the first defense of his title against a Jap boxer.
Hmmmm, cheers guys, I've learned more about this guy. As I said I think Calderon would boz rings around him, but Cazares put on a lot of pressure in the first fight and hurt Calderon, this kid throws a lot of punches (Cazares seems to throw in fits and spurts, or goes for one big shot at a time) and would be more suited at the weight, you never know. Would be amazing either way, to see Calderon outbox pressure fighters with aplomb is fantastic to watch, and I'm sure it'd be just as fantastic to see someone finally wear him down and beat him, it would take one helluva guy to do it!
I think he can hit P4P harder than anyone else right now. Decent boxer, decent defense from what I have seen one of the best prospects in boxing. To say Calderon would outbox him? Well of course! Who does he not outbox at these weights?
nice to see a KO guy at the low weight and i give him a sliight sliiiiiiiiiiiight chance against ivan
