Anarci, why is that so outrageous? Lopez has one of the worst resumes of any all-time great in the history of the sport. It WAS his fault. There was nothing stopping him moving up, he wasn't undersized by any means at Minimumweight. I'm not saying you can't pick Lopez in a fantasy match-up, I'm just saying that you must see it from other people's point of view? He demonstrated great skills, but was shown to be lacking an inside game when he ran into Alvarez. The man wasn't that past his best, he went out on top after moving up a division afterward. You need a good inside game to hang with Chang, or be a mover in my view. Lopez wasn't a mover, so why would I expect a Minimumweight to move up and beat one of if not the greatest Light Flyweight that ever lived? Stylistically it's not good, and we never saw Lopez overcome elite competition at Minimumweight, let alone up another division.

Lopez's consistency and skills are not enough for him to overcome Barrera, a fighter who demonstrated a more wide range of skills, and who beat much better competition during a 20 year career spanning three weight divisions.

I can see an argument for Barrera most definitly! In fact I wouldnt argue with Olivares,Barrera,Lopez and Morales shifting however you want to put them, although I will always have Barrera 1 notch above morales but not any more only a hair splitting them.

As for Lopez I dont like repeating my reasons in a one day period. On the General forum someone matched up Chang vs Lopez and I feel I stated a strong opinion,as to why Lopez would win. I watched Changs figts with alfonso Lopez,Zapata, and Ursua last night just to refresh my memory and my opinion hasnt changed check it out i went in depth about it.

So, we can chastise Lopez for not moving up but we can not do the same to, say, Monzon or Hagler?

I understand that there was not the depth at Lopez' weight class but he dominated it for over a decade.

Morales & Barrera at their best at 122 & 126 were better fighters than DLH was at any weight of his career.
EM & MAB were the only ones to get victories over the absolute best versions of each other (Barrera became more complete after Jones IMO)

A prime 27 yr old DLH at his most comfortable weight (147) lost to the smaller natural 135 lb Mosely.

Also, I too scored the Tito & SSM II fights for Oscar, **** the judges but then you have the Sturm (he lost), Quartey (50/50) & Whitaker (50/50) fights that go somewhat towards evening that up.

Lets not forget the disgrace which was losing to the much much smaller Manny Pacquiao (still unacceptable despite Manny`s recent achievements)

If you are going popularitywise (especcially in Mexico), Then certainly Pipino Cuevas deserves to be on the list. His following was only eclipsed by the great Chavez.

Ricardo Lopez is rated about right in general on here. It's not as if anyone denies he was an excellent and quite possibly great fighter for one.he's in the mix as one of the better little men of recent decades.Nothing wrong with picking Lopez over Chang to me , but don't expect not be presented with reasonable dissenting opinions.

Thing is, there's lots of fans of the Fly's here, so you find a wide range of fighters get their dues, and not just the usual two or three higher profile/more recent names that keep coming up on forums more dominated by higher weightclasses when someone wants to look cool and namedrop someone wthout knowing **** about the history of the division.you know the kind, usually tearing into someone like Jones for his competition, yet quite happy to namedrop a guy like Lopez, carbajal or one of the recent better Flyweighst as the defintion of true tested greatness:lol:.I can see why a forum like this would be a bit of a shock to those types.

Not that they should be included on the list. But notable Mexican-Americans: Bobby Chacon, Oscar De La Hoya, Manuel Ortiz, Danny "Lil Red" Lopez, Mando Ramos, Johnny Tapia, Danny Romero, Tony Lopez, Orlando Canizales.

Some great fighters just in that bracket but anarci had a point I suppose, I wouldnt include African-Americans on a list of great African fighters.

Fair list, Saldivar is too low, Morales and Arizmendi should be on the list....

I believe Herrera was from the Us... I think he might be the pioneer Mexican(american) fighter... Would you consider him an atg?
