Dempsey was troubled by far lesser fighters than Marciano, who was more proven against elite operators, even if most were older.

Jack just looks so much meaner of the two. Probably due to the era and conditions he grew up in.

    Thanks for posting.

“Music? I came here to fight, not dance.” is probably the most-Dempsey line I've ever read.

I agree with the outcome and general tone of the fight described here but I think it would've gone on a bit longer. Dempsey's HUGE edge in hand-speed, and power bring this home for him. Dempsey KO4-6 in a WAR.

The fact remains that Dempsey never beat a heavyweight as good as Walcott, Charles or Moore. Dempsey may have had a higher ceiling (debatable) but we know what Marciano could do against a higher level of heavyweight than disinterested Willard, amateur Firpo, Brennan, Carpentier, Gibbons...

I am not sure whether it would play out exactly like that, but the broad outcome is probably correct.

Neither man is going to have to look for the other, so it is likely to go to the faster starter, and the better finisher.

I think Marciano uppercuts his head into the third row.

Great post. I can make a case for either guy in this fight, but i believe a scenario where Dempsey wins by middle TKO is more believable.
i believe he wouldn't be able to stop the Rock, as Marciano was so tough but he would make a mess of his face. This damage would be difficult for Marciano to recover from, i think. By the middle rounds Dempsey finds a consistent home for his left hook & the referee calls a halt to the beating.

It's certainly a brave outcome. I was expecting some lengthly drawn out fight where one guy barely beats the other. It would appease most fans that way.

But I like this. It's bold.
I dunno who win, but definitely a fight for the ages.
