Maybe that he was doing very well against Ali for 10+ rounds, he put Foreman down twice, he beat Bugner and destroyed Shavers. And he was just a warrior all around.
Coming back from the dead helped his career. He was D.O.A on the operating table when revived back to life before fighting Ali. My lasting image of Lyle is getting knocked out of the ring from a body shot by Gerry Cooney.
DUDE that is pure PURE BADASSS!!!! On the badass scale of Human being Ron Lyle is #2. Marvin Hagler being #1 Ron Lyle #2 Steven Seagal #3 jk But thank you. About time someone gave a tribute. Just an amazing tough mofo. Guy is just a natural fighter. He outboxed Ali after starting boxing at 29 or something. Pretty much novice for an amateur let alone a pro. Imagine if he started boxing at 5. Just purely menacing fighter!!! Love it Andrey
Nice work.. I spent some time training at Red Shield in Denver with him. There ring is tiny, and he has some tough fighters. George Foreman even came to town and signed autographs for a show Lyle had some fighters in. Lyle is really easy to get a hold of up there.. Just walk into the rec center and go down the stairs. The guy is still fairly muscular for being around 70 years old.
He will never be called a GOAT but he will be remembered for his heart. Lyle vs Foreman is one of the smokiningest asskickingest fights of all time. :good
