I was watching some old fights on YouTube and ran across this fascinating documentary that looks at Lyle's prep for one of his early fights. He visits the prison where he had been incarcerated before his boxing career, and the documentary also follows his pre-fight prep and his post-fight celebration with his family. Well worth a watch!

Nice little documentary. I have another one done prior to this where he visits Ali's training camp and spars with him and then goes to Joe Frazier's camp and spars with Ken Norton. Lyle was an interesting guy. Had he started boxing earlier he could have really been something special. Big, strong, athletic, hard punching, and had good skills. His biggest problem was his tendency to go inactive or his inability to pull the trigger.

Could you post it? Watching this has sort of piqued my interest in Lyle. His prime was just a little before I began watching boxing seriously, so my only real contemporary memory of him was watching him get destroyed by Gerry Cooney.

Certainly I knew and retrospectively saw his fights with the 70s elite, and knew of his story, but that level of exposure is somewhat different than "being there." Documentaries like this help make up for that lack of understanding.
