what a fight he and foreman had kinda sad that a guy like this will get nowhere near the respect smoking joe did
Shame. His fight with Foreman was ****ing ridiculous - a wild slug-fest that gets my adrenaline pumping every time. People will be watching, and enjoying, that fight long after we're all gone.
Lyle's fight with Shavers was maybe even better than his fight with Foreman. Also had memorable fights with Bugner and LeDoux later on in his career. And, of course, he was doing well against Ali through ten, and it took a sustained, furious assault from The GOAT to finally put him away. Just a really good, solid, tough contender who would have been a serious contender (and quite probably a title holder) in any other era. He'll be remembered...and missed. RIP.
His fight with Shavers was a war alright. The Foreman fight just had so many changes in momentum, with both men coming back from what looked like certain defeat. One of the best Heavyweight fights ever. He wasn't the greatest but he played a memorable part in the best era of Heavyweight boxing. He'll be remembered.
damn...time is short on this earth. Lyle came from a era where heavyweights were actually well conditioned, could hit, and came to fight. Lyle will be missed. He didn't win a title but he's still a champ to me. RIP champ.
