Ron Lyle v Tommy Morrison ?

Lyle, the guy who stood toe to toe with George Foreman and dropped him on his a$$.

I pick Lyle and early, he seems a bit mentally stronger and a bit more durable out of the 2

 

If Morrison fights Lyle the way he did Foreman he wins, Morrison was quicker, more athletic, and when focused a tough guy to beat....

Tough fight to call 50-50 for me i lean more towards Morrison , only because i didn't see many of Lyle's fights..

Morrison wasn't an easy guy to beat he lost ONLY 3 out of 50 someting fights, and losing to Mercer, and Lewis is perfectly ok:deal, if he wouldn't have drank and partied so much and taken boxing more seriously he probably would have been champ for a long time, unfortunately he got sick and that was that....

 

Morrison only adjustd his style for one fight against Foreman, because Foreman is the only fighter slow enough for him to use that type of style against.

 

Brian Nielsen only lost 3 out of 66 fights, and losing to Holyfield and Tyson is perfectly ok.

This "glass half full" mentality of assessing fighters by who they lost just does not work.

 

You also can't completely omit the fact that he was sparked in one by Michael Bentt, was decked twice by Ross Purity who at that point was only 8-8, and barely survived an aged Carl Williams and Joe Hipp. Morrison was fringe level at his very best. He was an upper tier club fighter at his average.

 

He was the good-looking version of Eric Esch.

 

Didn't Morrison have a blonde mullet? In the 90s!?

 

People try to make alot out of the fact that "nobody stood in front of even an old foreman and this is testament to his strength" im not doubting foremans strength but maybe nobody was dumb enough to stand in front of an old slow fat 40+ year old.

yes Morrisons career may have slightly been better if he managed his private life better. But he was never gong to rule for long in The 90s. In fact i dont think ANY hw really ruled for long during that era, maybe Lewis had a bit of a dominant run in The late 90s.

sorry too many sharks in the waters during that era for Morrison, a not very durable fighter, to rule for long, way to many potential banana skins for him even if he lived his life like a monk

I'm pretty confident Lyle would take Morrison out in the early rounds or mid rounds. Lyle was one of the better guys to never win a world title I feel he was a threat to any champion before or after his time when he was at his best.

 

I'm not sure about this. I think if Morrison fought Lyle the way he fought Foreman it would make the fight a lot more difficult for Lyle opposed to Morrison standing toe to toe, but I still see a prime Ron Lyle being able to get to Morrison with the jab and eventually bring home his big right hand and damage Morrison enough to finish him. Also I think Ron Lyle much like Foreman would be able to take Morrison's punches for the most part, obviously a guy as powerful as Morrison could potentially knock out anyone but Lyle was a very solid guy and took a good shot I think Morrison would have more of a chance of finishing Lyle by TKO with Lyle's back against the ropes taking punches but I don't see that happening.

 

Yeah, there was a whole genre of mullet heavyweights from the mid-west in that era. Tough white badasses with murderous hair-dos. None of the best of them got a shot at the title.

They were the infamous "Mullet Row" heavyweights. Guys like Cecil Coffee, who was the equivalent of Cocoa Kid in the "Murderers Row", but was much nastier in the hair department.

 

Confident Morrison.
Main reason speed.
Assuming both at peak.Lyle good fighter but not many top victories more known for valiant losses v Ali Foreman.
Both got limitations but Morrison 6 round stopage or later..if it was 10 rounds wouldnt totally rule out points.
