Ron Lyle versus Deontay Wilder would be sanctioned murder.

Oh sure Lyle could win, but Shavers put him on the canvas and Wilder could too. It's a fight I would dread to bet on a winner. The only thing that is sure is it would end in KO.

This place is absolutely in love with big punchers, but they’re selective about it. As evidenced by the disrespect for Sonny Liston and Joe Louis. Although I think a lot of it is outright trolling to get a rise out of people and to be contrary.

i've been using these forums for over a decade and i would not say louis and liston are generally disrespected.

people are pushing back on rose tinted guys i think. a touch too far in some cases.

i pick wilder over lyle 80% of the time.

 

Lyle packed enough of a wallop to get anyone in trouble if he connected, but folks act like he was some lost ATG of his era or something. I think the dude had the kind of career and the kind of record he should have had given his skill set, no more or less, he didn't belong with the really elite crowd IMO.

Lyle possessed KO power and underrated boxing ability, but one thing that always stands out with me when talking Lyle was he was a destructive body puncher, which tends to get lost in the ether. But hang on. When one is looking at a fantasy match, one does have to look at the whole chess board, and when looking at Wilder you can't deny his overhand right was like a rocket. Right up there with Ken Norton and Tim Witherspoon's overhand right and that makes him very dangerous. But also, in looking over the whole board, I do feel those skinny legs and torso were always a bit on the shaky side and I do feel Ron would make a bee-line for that body. Ron Lyle by KO, maybe mid-fight.
