I don't know if I'd use "endearing", I'd say he is an underdog because despite being an olympic medalist, he really can't box. Mostly everyone in the ring with him, is the better boxer. Also he's a gunslinger and those types are danger until you get them.

 

Good point but I think Deontay carried his power better. He is/was just so dangerous till the last second of the fight.

 

Despite flaws Wilder showed championship heart in Fury fights . Wild shootout with multiple knockdowns with Wilder prevailing by ko .

 

He definitely carries his power well but his general gas tank is suspect. (He didn’t start doing roadwork up until very recently in his career) He compensated for it with a low work rate, but when he was forced to move backwards by Tyson fury’s pressure fighting he gassed quickly.

 

Who is/are the biggest punchers that Wilder has survived (= who actually landed big shots that Wilder withstood?)

Arreloa, Stiverne and Ortiz are the biggest punchers to have landed on him, and Wilder survived, imo. Helenius is in that sort of range for raw power too, but he didn't land on Deontay.

Obviously of these, Ortiz landed the most powerful and most numerous power punches.

 

Yes, but a lot of that gassing against Fury was caused by being mauled by a 280 pound dead fish who was manhandling him. Shavers didn't have that element to his game. Otherwise, Wilder has A+ level fighting heart and doesn't carry any superfluous flesh to inhibit his stamina.

 

Let's have this conversation again after the Parker fight, it's a good test for Wilder and probably the best fighter hes ever fought regarding chin department.

I'm not sure whether Parker serves as any kind of useful barometer these days. I'm expecting Wilder to make it an early night.

If Wilder struggles in any way to register a win, then I don't think it bodes well for him.

 

I'm inclined to agree. He's extremely likely to be on the way out.

It seemed to me that Parker had begun to go off the boil two or three years ago. I thought the Chisora bouts told a story. Joyce just confirmed it.

His recent outings, post-Joyce, have been low-level crowd-pleasers and actually quite entertaining - But not world class, in my opinion.
