Ron Lyle versus Deontay Wilder would be sanctioned murder.

There's every chance you are right. He's still well up in the rankings but the division isn't that deep.

Parker was weirdly highly ranked last time I checked. Still probably Wilder's second or third best opponent, though, which says something.

The ring rates him #6 now with Joe Joyce, who KO's him a bit over a year ago at #9. Joyce has paid hard for losing to Zhang twice in a row but Hrgovic beating Zhang right before Zhang's two wins over Joyce has muddied the waters somewhat. Zhang might actually be better than his rating right now but the flipside is Joyce isn't much chop and beat Parker because Parker is past it. It might even be a bit of both.

Parker hasn't quite been the same since AJ, I think. Just like Ruiz he's gone through the motions a bit after getting his big payday imo.

But I don't think that was the difference with Joyce. He doesn't have the power to really make a dent in Joyce and if you don't have you have to have great skills, which he doesn't have either.

Joyce was too big and strong for any version of Parker imo.

That may well be spot on.

Oh definitely no hard feelings mate you stated your case in a respectful way I have no issues with what you said. I just think Wilder needs to fight a few more notable names so we can make a better judgement on where he stands. If Wilder can knock out Parker in impressive fashion that's a pretty good start and definitely adds to his resume significantly.

Against whom was this tact effective enough to win? Only one opponent has figured out Wilder and that guy had a unique set of tools and had to walk through hell to get a draw and more recently a victory. I just don't see Lyle being that special or unique in any facet of his game. And again, who exactly did he beat and when did he sustain excellence?

I see many of Lyle's fights and while he could punch, he was not near the class of a puncher as Wilder, nor could he box as well.

Shavers got gassed and was a sitting target vs Lyle after shooting his load- Quarry took everything he had and made Ron Honest with a left hook and a bit more in the let's go the distance route.

Foreman was easy to hit, and it was that fight that made Lyle look like a beast......It was a great fight - King Kong vs Godzilla but both men on the attack had huge defensive flaws.

Wilder is a freak but moves well and positions himself very well for fast power shots.

    Wilder by KO over Lyle

Wilder may be unorthodox but he can box. He knows how to protect himself and set up his ridiculous power punches. The accounts of those who have fought him and especially his sparring partners refer to how difficult he is to reach. He's not a heavyweight Bud Crawford but he found something that works very well for him.

I’m not saying that he’s Joe Frazier or something. I Just said that his body punching could wear out wilder as an answer to Tyson fury’s mauling tactics being the reason Deontay gassed.
who exactly did wilder beat? Lyle didn’t have a great record, but do you believe wilder’s opposition was anywhere near as tough?

Yeah, I don't see that working. Lyle got hit. And going to the body he would definitely get hit. And getting hit by Wilder doesn't turn out well the vast percentage of the time. What I'm saying is that I don't think Lyle was skilled enough pull off that sort of attack.

Lyle certainly faced better fighters. He just didn't beat them. Twice beating Stiverne and Ortiz each ain't half bad. Giving Fury his only blemish in a true boxing match also deserves some credit.

even supposing he gets hit, his fight with forearm showed he can take a punch and keep coming. If he manages to get inside how would wilder setup his right hand?
Johann duhaupas was able to catch and tag wilder on the ropes multiple times on in 11 rounds. Is he more skilled than Lyle?
how do they to Oscar bonavene, Earnie shavers, jimmy ellis, and Joe bugner?
so would giving George Foreman his toughest fight. Especially since George wasn’t as rusty as Tyson fury was.

    Sanctioned killing.

People justifying an extremely limited slugger who got dominated by featherfisted Fury the moment he stopped playing his game baffle me.

Wilder cannot--I repeat--Wilder cannot fight on the back foot. He cannot fight against any sort of inside fighter. He would struggle extremely against compact, well-schooled defensive wizard. He would get dismembered by composed counterpuncher, especially with power to break his ribs.

Lyle crushes into him with authority. Moves, changes head slots, smothers Wilder with a high guard, pushes him off-balance, breaks his posture. Unloads two handed combinations; takes him to the trenches, takes him to the bloodied operating table he almost died on and drowns the fraud in an ocean of real grit, real determination, real war.
