Ron Lyle versus Deontay Wilder would be sanctioned murder.

Well, well, well - Parker surprised, whilst Wilder did not (not massively, at least).

I'm kinda hoping this puts paid to a tendency in Classic to overstate Wilder's head-to-head prowess against genuine World Class talent of the past.

My earlier speculation on Lyle vs Wilder stands - with even greater conviction.

Ron Lyle at 38 was getting KOed by Lynn Ball so I'm not sure the Parker result should change anyone's initial opinion.

 

You can't compare ages like that......Lyle had been in there with much stronger opposition. And no one was saying Wilder was past it when they were making him the favourite over the likes of Joshua when he took Helenius's head off.

 

Has Wilder won more than two rounds in a fight since like 2018? He’s been past it. He just has power now. The volume went first and now the timing is gone.

Some would argue that "power" is all he's ever had.

 

Now, from this perspective, it is very likely.

 

The only rounds Wilder won vs Fury is the rounds he knocked him down in, and vs Ortiz he lost pretty much every round until his power bailed him out. And Ortiz was 39 and over the age of 40 when he fought Wilder in both of those fights.

His power was the only stand out attribute about him, he never had elite level boxing skills or any other offensive skills that were unique apart from the right hand.

He just had an opponent with a solid chin and a still capable Heavyweight that exposed his flaws one being he can't fight on backfoot when being pressured.

 

A past it Joe Parker is worse than Ortiz and not likely even equal to Stiverne I. We’re talking about a guy who struggled with Chisora and managed to lose to Whyte before getting annihilated by Joe Joyce.

 

If you think Wilder didn’t have good timing at his peak, you don’t know boxing.

 

Why ? Ortiz's best win is vs Jennings in 2015 Parker was a world champion Ortiz wasn't.

Parker has a better resume and has done better vs 2 common opponents, Ortiz is 0-3 vs Wilder and Ruiz and was floored 5 or 6 times vs them ?

Parker is 2-0 vs Wilder and Ruiz and was never off his feet in either fight.

Ortiz was also 39 and over the age of 40 in 2 fights vs Wilder so no I don't think Ortiz was a better than the version of Parker last night.

And who's to say Wilder wouldn't struggle vs a motivated Chisora or Whyte ? Wasn't Whyte Wilder's mandatory and Wilder didn't fight him ?
