Ron Lyle took the best shots of George Foreman and Earnie Shavers, getting up from the canvas to stop Shavers and making Foreman fight for his life. Lyle definitely would be hands down the best opponent that Wilder has ever faced and can take Wilder's power, at least for the short term while hitting Wilder back likely harder than he's ever been hit back before. How would the Lyle that stopped Earnie Shavers do vs Deontay Wilder? Ron Lyle This content is protected vs Deontay Wilder This content is protected
I don't know, I'm leaning towards Lyle. If he hit Wilder with some of the same shots he hit Foreman with, what happens then? Plus it goes without saying that Lyle would likely be the most skilled boxer, punching power aside, that Wilder ever met in the ring.
Wilder would pepper his short ass with his Hearns like jab and constantly find that right hand. Those right hands would end this fight imo. I'd love to see Wilder vs Holmes, I can see Wilder winning that too.
Lyle would destroy Wilder...Wilder has never met anyone above B level..Shame the Povetkin fight didnt happen, Povetking would have knocked Wilder out Cold!
Sure, but Wilder could take them blows, Wilder's big right hands would be the diff maker here. He knocks Lyle out. Wilder would most likely KO Holmes as well.
I think wilder would do a Gerry Cooney on him . Too long, too hard hitting and too fast. Lyle was tough but he was used to guys standing in front of him to look good. These 70's guys also stayed in the pocket and loved to slug it out more than box technically . Wilder has his flaws but that goes in all era directions.
Lyle's better chin makes the difference here. He took the best shots of Shavers and came out on top and almost stopped Foreman. Wilder isn't a fast, combo power hitter like Tyson and technically isn't any better than Shavers or Foreman. Wilder may floor him, but I think if Lyle floors Wilder, he stays down
Im not a subscriber to the mythical shavers. most of the guys he lost to bc he couldnt knock them out wilder would have. Lyle may have the better chin but chances are hes getting hit first and it would be a punch that wasnt around in the 70's bc of Wilders speed along with power added coming at him froma 84 inch reach 6'7 frame away. Im not saying lyle couldnt win but i wouldnt bet on it.
