Wow. I forgot how brutal that fight was. How did Lyle get up from that? There were more bombs in this fight than dropped on Tokyo.
klits are lucky these types of dinosaur heavy contenders are'nt prowling the contender ranks today , bloody lucky.
This is why it is rightly called the Golden Era of Boxing. They were two of the hardest hitting men in boxing ever. Shavers showed one hell of a chin in this fight. As did Lyle. This rates right up there with Lyle vs Foreman.
Lyle and Shavers were great bangers with limited skills, only Ali was able to make boring fights with these guys. *** I want to thank you from the very bottom of my heart for not using rap hip hop crap as background music.
Ron Lyle has a crazy story and the amount of success he had against ATG's with his late start in boxing was a inspiration.
one of my fav old HW fights. Ghetto and raw..both of these dudes were some svagae knock out artists!!
Of all the past heavyweights, all of them, the one guy that I thought could cut down a huge hevyweight would be Earnie Shavers. That huge looping overhand right he throws with those side show freaky long arms of his must look like it comes out of nowhere the way Shavers throws it. That would be a dangerous punch against a tall heavy.
Great highlight for this war. Thank God there was no terrible hiphop music playing over it Although neither fighter was never truely elite, they both abslutely deserve respect from any era of boxing. I always had a thing for Shavers though. He was never looked at as an easy nights work for ANYONE, he was always dangerous. His power was legendary. Mix that with the fact he has professional wins from the late 60's to well into the 90's. Defenition of old school boxer imo.
