Patterson late KO after some scary moments. Lyle is no Liston.

Patterson late ko? Noway mate, the only way that i can see patterson winning is by decision using his boxing skill, but if this fight ends by ko would be lyle who scores it

Floyd stops him late....But imaginary, hypothetical never existed Ron Lyle would absolutely brutalize real life historic Ron Lyle for whatever that is worth.

I think he's right on. The only knockout would come for Lyle. While Floyd clearly did better against top fighters, I have always held that most fighters could beat Floyd if they bombed him early b4 he could get started. I do think it's possible that Floyd could outbox Lyle for the decision, and there would probably be some good exchanges, but Lyle possessed more brutal power imo, and was a better survivor than Floyd. Floyd still had plenty of power and a fair chin, but I say Lyle early.

Floyd Patterson by unanimous decision, Ron Lyle can hit, we saw that against George Foreman in 1976. Jerry Quarry beat Ron Lyle by unanimous decision on Feb 9 1973. Floyd has more experience, speed, and is a good counter puncher, again he took the best from George Chuvalo in 1965 and the best from Oscar Bonavena in 1972, he defeated both on points. Lyle, the aggressor would constantly get countered by the quicker Patterson.

I got Floyd in this one. The better boxer. Was also able to win the World Title on two occasions. Lyle is a damned good, tough fighter with some good power. I think he can get a bit overrated because be came from the Golden Era and fought Ali and Foreman.

As others stated above, Lyle lands some good shots early that wakes Patterson up.

Lyle was a very powerful counterpuncher though (i. e. Quarry and Foreman)

They were only active at the same time in 1971 and 1972. I'd give Floyd the edge in 1971 due to Lyle's inexperience, but by the end of 1972 Lyle was taking on some good experienced guys. I have to give the edge to Lyle in 72.

A classic case of can speed and skill overcome size and strength?
