forgive me if this has been done before but if not ...have at it.could be very brutal and painful for both men
Dempsey should win here, not sure he stops Lyle though, although on the inside he's so much better. I'd say Lyle is a tougher test than Firpo though
A past prime and more easy to hit Jerry Quarry took Ron to school. (JQ no longer possessed his defensive elusiveness of the late 1960s.) Jack was taller, with a longer reach. This would be a massacre. Prime Dempsey was much faster than Shavers, Foreman and Bonavena, showed better stamina against Tommy Gibbons and in Brennan II than anything Lyle ever displayed, and I think Ron would try slugging with Jack, something he didn't have the hand speed for. Lyle might position himself against the ropes to counter, as he did after Shavers floored him, but Dempsey hammered the crap out of Willard there (very unlike what relatively little Moran and Johnson were able to do to Jess against the ropes).
I watched Jerry Quarry handle a prime and undefeated Lyle pretty easily. I have no doubt Dempsey would prevail but I expect a Dempsey KO before the 10th...I like Dempsey KO5
Dempsey would be too fast in this one. Ron was strong and tough enough to take Jack the distance, though. Dempsey by UD.
the foreman war was a decent fight, but not a great performance. he was sloppy and got knocked the **** out by an also sloppy foreman. can't say i recall the shavers fight, worth a look though in the end, he lost (decisively) to almost every good heavyweight he fought. he was either dominated or knocked out. the foreman and ali fights have put him in a place where i don't personally feel he belongs
And I'm still curious where Dempsey's reputation comes from. Seriously, he massacred a cumbersome giant who couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag to win the title. He rarely defended it during his reign and was easily outboxed by a blown-up light heavy to lose his title. Of course, some folks still think Babe Ruth would hit 60 home runs in the modern era and that Red Grange would slice modern defenses to pieces.
