i feel for leon in this one. lyle has a lot of love on the classic. this time though i have to agree that lyle hold most advantages. unless leon keeps his complete focus and outworks lyle all 15 rounds, i see him dropping a decision to lyle
Lyle by ko. The only advantage Spinks would have in this one would be speed. Lyle was bigger, stronger, had a harder punch and was a better boxer.
Prime Lyle stops Spinks within five. However if it's any version of Lyle after the Foreman fight, Leon wins on a decision.
No contest. Lyle was a big puncher with pretty fair boxing skills, I see this fight over in less than six minutes. Leon had heart but not much more as a heavyweight.
On his very best night, Leon could outwork Lyle. But most of the time Lyle would take him out in under five rounds.
Could be a decision, I would favor Lyle but on a good night Leon could make it close just that Lyle was more consistent for a longer period, Leon had a short career with many downs
Leon Spinks had fighting ability, but had too few quality performances to be favored over a long term competitor like Ron Lyle. He did manage to have a pretty good year in 1980, when he put together a nice little winning streak, but it was short lived. His chin and tendency to fall victim to big hitters would be his ultimate downfall, and this is assuming that he's even in shape for the affair.
