I would say that Wlad had (inhale) better footwork, better jab, better right hand, faster hands, better ring IQ, better defense, better punch repetoire, better championship mettle, better looking wife... I could go on.

Lyle has a chance, for sure. But you have to go with Vlad who hit greater heights, literally and figuratively. Most likely Vlad KOs him around the same time that Ali did.

 

To be fair Lyle was shot against Ball and Cooney and the other two that stopped him were Ali and Foreman.

 

I'd say at least half those are debatable, but I'd still have Wlad as a 4-1 favorite.
I daresay Ali and Robinson edge him out in the hot wife contest.

That would be a losing debate on any of those fronts. Wlad was just a better athlete who proved far better at the elite level of the sport for far longer. To pick Lyle would be to bet on a colossal upset. But people are often attracted to long odds.

Wlad would be very cautious and conscious of the distance between them. Lyle may have a moment or two early on, but Wlad is too good at what he does.

Wide decision or later stoppage for Wlad.

 

W. Klitschko would have been very cautious but would have picked the pace up as the fight wore on. I would say Klitschko wears Lyle out and it is a TKO in the 9th. Although Wlad may have a glass chin he is much taller and the jab is disarming...

 

Wlad. You don't stay at the top as long as he did without being pretty effective. At his best, it'd take a very good fighter, or a fluke to beat him.

Nice to see a reversal of the modern contender vs past champion trope though.
