The version of Mugabi that fought Hagler beats any version of Winky. But, any less effort than that, and he likely gets outpointed.
Man John was a,monster for a short period of time and he was wreaking legitimate tough contenders. Love Winky but I think John takes this one.
I think the pre-Hagler 154 pound version of Mugabi has a good chance of beating Winky. He put a ton of heat on his opponents a la Vazquez and Vargas. There's just a scale of his dynamicism there that I feel would break down Wright. I know it's always clever to pick the slick fighter, especially the slick lefty, in these match-ups but I'm going against that grain.
A young Wright (22 years) lost against Vasquez despite boxing better than his opponent but going down 5 times. Then he had a controversial loss against Vargas and a loss after a very close fight (I score the fight for Winky) against another aggressive fighter like Simon. The excellent jab, defense, good timing and accurate shots allowed him to win twice against Mosley and to give a boxing lesson to Trinidad in the middleweight. I think that in his prime Wright would have resisted the aggression and power of Mugabi thanks to his defensive ability, then he would have dictated the pace with his jab, anticipating and taking away the time from the Ugandan fighter. So I say Wright would have clearly won on points.
