Terrible match for Duran IMO, Wright in a stinky.

At first glance, I thought Wright...but...
Alot of variables here, first of all Duran's consistancy (or lack of) at junior middle...and Wright's mobility. Let's take Winky from the first Mosely fight and the motivated Duran from the Moore bout and we've got a fight.
Wright simply hammered Mosely with his right jab in that fight, Mosely could not get around it, and Winky's 'stone wall' defense...Would Duran at the elevated weight be able to slip that jab?...or suffocate it by fighting inside?
I think Duran's only option is fighting inside, and attempting to reach around Wright's elbows to land body punches...Duran, if anybody, is capable of doing this...and IMO it's the only way Duran can make this close.
This is a hard match-up to breakdown. Taking into account both fighter's level of consistancy, the pick should rightfully be Ronald Wright...But if Duran was/is at his very best, even at junior middle, I'd say he could concievably beats Wright...Duran is one of those fighters that logic does not apply!

Duran could counter and slip Wrights jab much more often than not if he is in shape.

IMO he is the vastly superior boxer-puncher of the two. It's the weight disparity and Wright's steadiness that will trouble him.

If by steadiness you mean his defensive skills, I agree.

Fighting Wright was/is like fighting a tortoise. He is difficult to penetrate but the style is not complex enough to baffle a sharp Duran.

    Emphasis on a sharp Duran.

Duran knew how to place his shots around the corners and bait him out, and then counter. In Montreal (round 3 particularly), during those rare times that Leonard backed off and covered up, Duran would probe with the jab, step in, and rip vicious shots up and down.

Wright's shots always struck me as too often casual. He opened his glove alot and was often in position to defend, but not punch effectively. I think that Duran's intensity would earn him a points win.

Duran was hot and cold at SMW. The Duran who was superb against Davey Moore would have a chance. I think Winky was too crafty, too hard to hit for the most part. Duran really did not do well with Benitez and Wright is Benitez's equal IMO.

Winky was always out to get points, really. Can't fault him for the choice to throw light shots, as it's not as if that's what he was capable of and nothing but.

He very definitely could of putten away Trinidad, and that's not exactly a small task.

I just think Wrights dull cautious defensive style would bring out the worst of Duran up in the weights. Hardly an opponent to inspire Duran. IF Duran is totally inspired he might be able to win a decision, i just think at this weight with the points mentioned Winky might bore Duran to a points loss.
