I hate Rousey but she has a bronze medal in judo. To say she is not an elite athlete is just ****ing stupid.
MMA fights are practically a coin flip, always have and always will be. Try flipping a coin and see how easy it is to get a runs of heads head heads heads heads or tails tails tails tails.

This is a bad day for MMA. You only now have McGregor and a bunch of old guys no one really gives a **** about.

I saw Ronda with HOLY and she was looking so slow fighter. Also, all the other fighters seem so well trained and she looks so fat. I wonder how she succeeds at the past to defend her title so many times.

The best boxing coaches will not give you warrior heart & granite chin, but with proper coaching and the discipline + commitment to listen to said coaches, anyone's skill level & experience can improve, in regards to technique and fundamentals at least.

The problem with Ronda I feel, is that she let her ego get in the way of bettering herself as a complete fighter.

She blamed her lose against Holly, on everything and everyone but herself.

And instead of taking that year off to work on her boxing-striking skills, she basically surrounded herself with yes men, in order to maintain her false sense of superiority over others.

So in essence, she wasted all that time trying to LOOK great, instead of working towards becoming greater.

Once Holly exposed her limitations as a fighter, and utilized effect movement, distance control, fundamental boxing strikes and timing, it was all downhill for Ronda.

But it could have been prevented, if she had the right mindset, after experiencing such a devastating setback.

A coach once told me "It's not how a champion reacts after a victory, that determines his spirit as a fighter, but more so how he responds after a defeat. Will he point fingers, lay blame and try to stoke his ego up? Or will he go back to the gym, shut up, listen to his coaches, and learn as much as he can from his mistakes? This is how you learn to separate the greats, from those who had the potential to become great"

the thing that makes me laugh the most are the comparisons to Mike Tyson. Tyson did actually come back and beat the crap out of a few people, even regaining the title. Ronda is not in that class.

It's the UFC, long on hype, short on depth.

Rhonda can't really fight in terms of boxing skills. No head movement, can't slip a punch....just a wide open target. Amazing the MMA types wanted to see her in the ring with Mayweather. It would have been a first round, first punch ko quite obviously then and now.

This is what baffles me. She was with a boxing trainer for like 5 years and cant even slip or parry a shot. Just bizarre.

We are all just bad people for seeing through what a vile P.O.S. Rousey is and recognizing the impetus behind the cultural motivations that promoted her.

Judo takedowns don't work too well /not at all in "MMA". You can count the number of judo throws in the last 50 UFC events on one hand. In "WMMA", the level of competition was so low that all Ronda needed was Judo throws ( and they actually worked) and an armbar. Ronda is like the Royce Gracie ( minus like 25 years behind Royce in development) of WMMA. But Ronda hasnt evolved and the women around her are.

She won a shared bronze medal in one of the more shallow weight classes in female Judo, she was actually 4th best at the Olympics.

Do you consider say Yerkebulan Shynaliyev an "elite athlete"? He won the shared bronze medal in LHW division of boxing at the 2008 Olympics, a sport with a bigger talent pool than female judo.

I guess it depends on the definition of the "elite athlete" but people were comparing Ronda with the Michael Jordan and Serena Williams type of "elite athlete" level.

I respect female judo but I don't recall women from my country (Slovenia) who actually won gold medals getting 1% of the hype Rousey got even in my country (and we hardly ever win anything on the Olympics, female judo is one of our most marquee sports medal-wise but we still didn't hype those girls to the extent American media hyped Rousey). That's why Ronda hype was always ridiculous to me because I actually know a thing or two about Ronda's original sport and her ceiling as an athlete.

Ronda ran away from the competitive 63 kilo weight class and moved up to 70 kilo where there isn't that much competition and there was a huge gap between her and the best judoka in that weigh class Masae Ueno. 70 kilo is around 155 lbs (yet she wouldn't fight Cyborg even at 140 lbs? LOL), it was basically like Cyborg 145 lbs division in MMA - one elite fighter (Masae Ueno who won two gold medals) and hardly anyone else, there simply aren't that many women in the world who are that big.

Ronda also lost to top European judokas like Edith Bosch, my compatriot Urška Žolnir (63 kilo gold medalist in 2012) and that black Frenchwoman who clowned her and left Ronda in tears and frustrated after losing (look at her bullrushing at 8:55 just like against Holy and Amanda in MMA):

My country has the current gold medalist in the 63 kilo weight class now, won everything there is to win in Judo and is only 26.

If Ronda is elite athlete then Tina is über-elite.

You can sell the stories about Ronda being some great judoka to Americans who don't know anything about judo but here we know what the truth is. She was never elite female judoka, a prospect at best. She ran away from judo eventually because she just isn't fit mentally and the stars aligned for her in women MMA, a sport with much more shallow talent pool.

They work well but they need to be part of a bigger arsenal of takedowns and offensive grappling. For example sambo (which is basically very close to judo) fighters like Fedor and now Khabib use judo throws but it's effective because it's just one of their weapons and when they get in the clinch they're really dangerous with that but they can threaten with others things from different ranges too. Hector Lombard also ragdolled people with judo throws in the past. The problems is Ronda doesn't have anything to threaten with before getting in the clinch. It's like being only good at inside fighting in boxing but having no jab, no defense/head movement and no footwork, any decent boxer is just going to eat you up from range but it doesn't mean inside fighting in itself doesn't work though.
