It is quite accurate that an MMA fighter *may* fare poorly against a purely boxing fighter (so long as the MMA fighter isn't actually a top level boxer who has decided to try their hand at MMA - like Holly Holm for example) in a purely boxing match, but that is so far missing the point that it proves absolutely nothing at all.

MMA is about using whatever skills a fighter has to defeat another fighter who is ALSO using those skills, your comparison is like saying David Tua would an ATG heavyweight if in boxing you were only allowed to do left hooks.

You wouldn't put a boxer in a Judo match (also it's own entity) and expect them to win, UNLESS they also have done Judo.

With MMA you're allowed to use them also, a boxer MAY be better at boxing but if in MMA who cares - a boxer who would win every boxing match CAN still get KTFO by a kick to the head or suffer a loss by submission.

Again, Holly ended up on the ground defending against Rousey and survived it. While I haven't watched all of Rousey's fights - I know a LOT of them lasted roughly as long as it took for Rousey to get them to the ground + a few more seconds to force a submission.

Holm got out of the situation which so many others haven't, that was NOTHING to do with boxing. If she had not developed those skills to that level, the fight would have ended there. Guaranteed.

Utter nonsense. If you were an MMA fighter all of your life and try to learn to box, and you face a top boxer...you have no chance. If you're a boxer who has boxed his whole life and decided to try MMA, you have a chance to win if you can learn some defensive techniques. :smoke

Holm won using MMA's. We know that. Boxers can't beat MMA fighters at their own game and vice versa. Boxing isn't a subset of MMA.

The thing what most people tend to forget is most MMA fighters are rank amateurs at FIGHTING. So they can easily be exposed. Yes they might have wrestled for a couple of years, did some juijitsu for a couple of years but how long have they actually FOUGHT and what quality of opposition have they faced, the answer for most is not long & low quality of opposition. More than just showing how weak Ronda's striking is, her failure to adapt and cope with the pressure shows that shes still an amateur at the fighting game, just like many mma fighters are, although it has to be said that woeful display was particularly embarrassing :rofl

Boxing does teach you how to execute your plan in a FIGHT. Someone is trying to take your head off in a high pressure environment. Experience of that, especially at the higher levels and over a long period will mentally & psychologically already put you several tiers higher than the average mma fighter who has only fought a couple of times. I hate watching novices fight. Thats why so many mma fights should not even be televised! :hey
