Anyone else think he has been slipping as a trainer, or maybe always been slightly overrated? Dont get me wrong, he IS a great trainer and does know his stuff, I just wonder if in recent years he has changed his methods. Edwin Rodriguez did not look improved since his amateur days against Ward Erislandy Lara looked poor against Carlos Molina Kermit Cintron also Looked poor in his showing against Molina Shields did a great job with some champions in the past, but he hasnt been having much luck with his fighters. It seems that he is all about looking for a first round KO, but doesnt have a great gameplan for his fighters. I remember when Lara fought Molina, they were confident that they would get a 1st round KO solely because he had in his last 4 fights. That was surprising that they would approach the fight with that much overconfidence, and as a result looking for a KO instead of fighting smart, Lara barely got a draw. It looked like that was the only hope he had for Edwin too, as Edwin came out looking to land a big punch out the gate.
I think Ronnie has still got it...I don't think his fighters have the mental capacity to follow through with his gameplans or stick to them...athletically they're cool, but they lack in mental dept.
