The IBF Inter-Continental Middleweight Title is on the line here. This is a pretty interesting fight for German standards because both are well known fighters with a solid background and both are fighting for everything especially Patrick Wojcicki. He always loved kickboxing and also was a good fighter at junior level switched between boxing and kickboxing all the time. He was a very solid amateur in boxing winning the Chemiepokal 2011 vs Uktamjon Rahmonov in the final. He also has a notable win vs Abdulkadir Koroglu and qualified for the 2012 London Olympics where he lost to Alexis Vastine. He also won the german nationals three times in a row (2009-2011). He decided to focus on kickboxing after 2012 but switched back and turned pro as boxer late in the end of 2015 after winning a WAKO world cup kickboxing event couple of months before. He is 10-0-1 as a pro so far, winning four fights by KO. On the other side Ronny Mittag is a pro for almost 11 years now. He already has 34 pro fights under his name, winning 30 of them (15 by KO). Mittag isn't anything special imo, he is a decent puncher, has a solid jab with a high working rate IF he feels comfortable but he is easy to hit, he is not that good technically and he has some serious problems if getting pressured by the opponent. The first date of the fight was postpone because of Wojcicki being injured in March but he looked fine in his training camp for the last eight weeks so i do not think this will be an issue. I am a bit surprised about the fact that nearly everyone in the league picked Mittag over Wojcicki because i rate Wojcicki as the better fighter overall who should win this if he doesn't get robbed by the local judges because Mittag has some kind of home advantage here. I picked Wojcicki by Split decision because of that, i can see an UD too and Wojcicki outboxing Mittag. Should go to the distance imo. Very excited about this one because Wojcickis team is aiming a title shot vs Golovkin in the future (no joke!). He IS very good imo, the question is if he can bring it on Friday. Sport1 will do a big coverage in German TV, also showing some undercard fights i assume. Looking forward to this one.
I'm totally split here, I can see an argument for either man winning and I've been waffling, going back and forth, I'll make my proclamation when I make my oficial pick.
After watching both fighters, I came to the same conclusion as you did. Mittag got a gift against Cummings IMO, and while he's all around decent and has a so so jab, he's nothing special. Whereas Wojcicki has a solid jab, controls range fairly well, is a fairly good combination puncher, and seems to have a little more pop than Mittag. Also he does the flashier work, which may end up impressing the judges in a similar fashion to Abraham. So, I think Patrick takes it by UD, it could be close, could be wide, a late stoppage win fro Wojcicki shouldn't be ruled out either.
