Now 26 years old and college grad, he made his pro debut last week. Gotta love the Kevin Rooney style, balls to walls bad intentions for four rounds. Still needs quite a bit of improvement, but hes tough and exciting.

I think its a great age to turn pro and he looked okay in there.

Boxing needs things like that: So many decent amateurs tackle things in life like college, which is great and absolutely a good decision, and never step back in the ring afterwards, even though they want to. I did the same thing, and have seen 100 fighters better than me who actually never got back, intending to the whole while.

More mature kids like young Rooney coming to the pro ranks would be something to celebrate. And its good to see Kevin molding another generation, he's a very good coach.

It amazes me Rooney Sr doesnt get more fighters. He teaches a very exciting crowd pleasing style and he gets his fighters in top shape. Its a testament to the lazy generation of fighters today. Noone wants to go to Catskill and concentrate on boxing and Rooney wont leave upstate NY.

x2 imagine if Rooney had Pacquaio for the last 10years instead of Roach

Have you seen Rooney jr in training? What are your thoughts on his potential? A bit of a late start, nice Demato style with a few flaws, could do with jabbing more and looks flat footed and a bit soft imo

To be fair, Kevin is apparently really picky with his time when it comes to pros, and he doesn't like to adapt much. Whether your a boxer, puncher, or anywhere in between, he's gonna teach you to fight one way.

That said, people with a gift for that type of boxing should absolutely consider giving him a ring if they are serious.

David Tua was very close to going with Rooney when he left Main Events. Could have been a big factor in David's career if he stayed in top shape and applied more combination punching and head movement.

This is true, he wouldnt meld well with a boxer or a mover. He loves his fighters to square up, throw wide punches and fight.

Thanks for posting this lefthook, Rooney jr looks good, i knew he was debuting since i have Rooney sr on Facebook, but i didn't think i'd get to see this on Youtube. I thought he would be much more elusive, anyway at least he's an exciting warrior. To be fair he needs more experience to be properly judged, he only had 7 fights before turning pro!

David Tua with Rooney would have been a great decision for Dave. Kev would have had a ton to teach him.

Povetkin should have went with Rooney instead of Atlas.

    Totally agree.

Rooney would put Povetkin in with the best competition available, whereas Atlas doesn't want him to face anyone who's even remotely a threat.
