Just re-watched this fight because someone said on another thread that Camacho didn`t run v Rosario and I was shocked at how one-sided the fight was, Rosario took over from round 4 and after Camacho got hurt in rd 5 Rosario was in complete control with Camacho just trying to control the space by jabbing at Rosario`s gloves, was Camacho over-rated? (Rd 9 and 10 were both a draw though after re-checking again)
Don't think Hector was overrated, but he faced a fighter, who, potentially, if developed, could have been better than he was. And Rosario probably was the first fighter who really caught him with tremendous power. So Edwin may have shaken him up in more ways than one, to the point his style had changed, and it was the 80's, so we know the outer ring exploits.
I watched the fight many times and it was either a draw or a super close edge to Hector .. still, Rosario changed his career ... Hector was never the same ..
Mark, I would disagree with you on a bit of this fight. Here is my score: Round 1: 10-9 Camacho Round 2: 10-9 Camacho Round 3: 10-9 Rosario Round 4: 10-9 Rosario Round 5: 10-9 Rosario (I was very tempted to make this 10-8, but held back due to Camacho's early and late surge, but won't disagree with anyone else if they think its 10-8) Round 6: 10-9 Camacho Round 7: 10-9 Camacho Round 8: 10-9 Rosario Round 9: 10-9 Camacho Round 10: 10-9 Camacho Round 11: 10-9 Rosario Round 12: 10-9 Rosario Total 114-114 Draw McGrain also scored this fight around the same time I did and we were exact except for the 8th, which he gave to Camacho. It's a tough fight with some tight rounds.
After that June 13 1986 fight in Madison Square Garden, televised by HBO, Hector Macho Camacho was never the same again. He became gun shy, and became strictly a runner. Edwin El Chapo Rosario changed his boxing life forever more.
I think that might have been me? And I wanted to clarify he clearly wanted nothing to do with Rosario after he got hurt, took off and tried to stay out of range. What I was saying is he didn't exclusively run. In the early rounds and again after his head cleared Comacho engaged Rosario, sometimes boxing from the outside but at least in the same general area. Camacho was trying to win rather than survive, part of which was making sure he didn't get knocked out in the 5th round.
Just checked round 9 again cause of a comment above and yes Camacho did try to win that round and hurt Rosario in that round also.
There was a guy here that used to love scoring fights and i distinctly remember him scoring this for Edwin, by 2 points from mem. I'll see if i can find it over the weekend for you to compare.
