I'll go with Mancini. Stoppage of course, during the second half of the fight. I sure do not like the way Rosario kept that right hand way to the outside against this guy. That elbow way out leaves a big opening underneath and over it. He will get hit a ton of hard body punches. I also think Ray backs him up and that busy style and pace of Mancini does not play into Rosario's strengths either. Good physical bout and the loser would hang tough for awhile no matter who wins or loses. The kind of fight that takes a year or 2 out of a guy's prime---and neither could really afford that & a reason why the match wasn't made.
I also go with Ray. Ramirez and Hiranaka and of course Chavez ball showed the way to beat Rosario was to get in his chest inside his power and smother him. Chavez was just better than him anyway, but the other two were a styles thing. Seeing Rosario catch Ray early with something big and ending it then wouldn't absolutely shock me either, but I still like Mancini here. Now on with the parroting of "durrrrr, glorified clubfighter durrrrrrrr" nonsense we'll also see I'm sure.
I really like both these guys. Love Rosarios footwork and just like Mancini all around. A consummate professional and one of boxings good guys who I feel gets a raw deal alot of the time. You make a very good case regarding the way Edwin flared his elbows out. It's a tough tough fight to call though. I'd be pulling for Ray though just too much about the guy not to like.
Well that elbow out style worked for Ali. Sure did not hold up for Rosario or his stablemate Wilfredo Gomez==once he moved up in weight. Can you imagine some other fighters trying that elbow out hand placement? Lets say Bowe/Ruddock/Barkley/Virgil Hill even. Just a tough tough defense to incorporate and use successfully with elite competition. Aside from Ali and those reflexes of his, I just see it as a defense solved once a guy makes it to the top. But guys like Gomez and Rosario really did not roll with punches that well and were getting hit clean .It really requires great boxing radar to hold that elbow way out there and not get clipped with right hands. A couple of tough fights and that radar usually has a way of becoming absent and becomes a huge issue.
Rosario was one of the best one-punch KO artists I've seen. I love Ray, but his chin is always there. He can swarm Rosario the way he did Ramirez, but Chapo is getting through and when he does Ray is not recovering.
Early Gomez had superb reflexes and was getting away with it. I'd say despite that flaw, he still had an all time great career.
If both are at their best I'd take Rosario here. The pair of them were better boxers than sometimes given credit for, but Rosario held his own with technicians of the calibre of Randall (albeit I scored that first fight a draw) and Davis pretty impressively. Hand speed goes to Mancini, and perhaps durability too, but I'd give Rosario the advantage in power, defence (not necessarily a strong suit for either, but still), accuracy and ring generalship. Both could stop the other, but I don't see Mancini being able to win a decision here. Think I'd favour Rosario to do enough, just about.
Very interesting fight. Stylistically Rosario should be favored. Although Mancini beat Ramirez much more convincingly than Rosario twice, Rosario was able to blow out Bramble, who beat Mancini twice. Mancini was somewhat similar to Chavez but I don't think he would be able to pull off what Chavez did to Rosario, but I can still see a highly competitive scrap. Rosario does enough damage to Mancini to beat him by decision.
I feel after the Kim fight Mancini was never the same fighter. Sensitive man which there is nothing wrong with that but it changed his intensity and instincts IMO
It's up to Rosario. If he is on..he stops Mancini. Boom Boom is right there Edwin will drop the hammer on him.
